I think I read this book for the first time at the age of 9 or so. Then, I was probably too proud of myself for reading such a grown up book for actually understanding the content! (At least that's what I tell myself now...) But since then I've read and reread the book over 20 times, and I've never gotten tired of it. Even if I know exactly what is going to happen next, Austen's story and writing is so much fun to read. Almost every line is a joke or poke or stab at some character or at society. I love it!

An unbelievable story - every American should read this. Not knowing what twists and turns the story would take, I read it expecting a simple narrative account of one family's struggle to deal with Hurricane Katrina. After the story of this family hooks you, the real story of Zeitoun begins: frustrating, infuriating, and shameful. Could not put this book down. Eggers does basically the minimum in terms of writing to move the story along, the simple prose allows the facts to speak for themselves. Cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Nothing really wonderful or terrible happens in this really really long book. I have my own life for that, thanks. The only detail that really sticks with me from this novel is that for some reason the hero falls in love with a girl who has greenish skin.

To understand why this is written the way it is, you need to read the Afterword. But once I'd gotten to that point, I no longer cared; I was mostly glad it was over.

I love anything Max Lucado. He takes the ordinary and helps the reader understand Biblical truths.

Outstanding! It was one of the best audio productions I've heard in a long time. Not only was the story great, but John Glover's narration put it over the top. Ted Dekker delves into the minds of the mentally ill and a very "smart" serial killer with such ease, it's unnerving. I was on the edge of my seat for almost the entire book. Bravo!
