I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. I enjoyed this book, but the magestic qualities were not my thing.

The Flashman series is alawys entertaining and for those interested in history- a pure delight. Fraser's research is first-rate, and his skeptical view of the events and historical figures that populate the series is interesting.

This is a book to apply immediately. My family and I have known the importance of sabbath but now we are learning to apply this truth.
I liked this better the second time around, actually, because I remember the first time being really annoyed by the midget--sorry, little person--character. Once I got around the fact that he's annoying, he actually became quite funny, and his running judgment of Stephanie's mishaps was very sadly hilarious; also, the idea that you never leave blood behind (even if you don't like them at all) rings very true to my upbringing, and reading the family politics around that was much funnier because I heard so many echoes of my own mother and grandmother. Ah, family. They make you much crazier than firebombs or the Mafia.

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
I don't think this book will ever leave the "currently reading" category. Partly because there are parts of it I'll read and re-read and re-read. Partly because it's a giant tome I don't think I'll ever completely finish. Everything you ever wanted to know about the chemistry and physics of food and cooking, down to the molecular level, yet understandable and practical. I may never overcook an egg again! If it teaches me how to bake bread, I'll consider this book a miracle.

This really spoke to my young self, even though I was never a poet.

It is a subject matter that I would find to difficult to read about normally but because it is told from a child's point of view it is not disturbing and makes for an interesting read.
I wish I could erase the image of the man crashing to the ground. Jeebus! Just looking at the bookcover makes me draw a breath and wince knowing that image will fly before my eyes. I guess pressing an image that strongly into memory is a mark of a good writer. As for the rest, the characters weren't terribly likeable. It's not something that I would read again.

Truly fantastic collection of short stories. The language is rich and deep, a real pleasure to read. Though the book is short, it is not a quick read, because the language is so dense. The stories seem to take place in a dreamworld where anything strange could happen and it is treated as amazing but not impossible. The story in the introduction about the author and how the book came about is interesting, in that many of these stories may be at least partially autobiographical. I read this because I heard a lot about the erasure (or cutting?) project Tree of Codes, which is based on this book. I have not seen that book, but having read this I see how one could create a great deal of interesting things from the words used in this book. Nearly any sentence could be taken out and broken into lines and used in a poem.
