A very funny and surprisingly touching book.

Amazing story! Nuff said. I don't re-read books. As a matter of fact, I don't think I have ever read a book twice. I WILL read this book again, and I might even read it a third time somewhere down the line. Very inspiring. Full of determination and courage. I loved it!

this book is invigorating and addictive. Turning the lens on a long seen but rarely acknowledged female powerhouse.
I loved this book. It is almost a bit of a soap opera with its mix of the familial and the allegorical and the supernatural evil but it is the real stuff the West is made of. I liked the Biblical story line and the Hamiltons and found it all quite readable. And the questions of what makes one good or bad and how do people's lives work out in the end as the world turns get a superb treatment.

It was a long hard slog but I finally finished it. Jared Diamond provides some very interesting answers to the question "Why did technology occur in some places and not others?" (that's totally oversimplified, by the way). This book is very dense, but I think anyone could enjoy it. Political science/human history/evolutionary biology for the masses. But it is totally dense. I think I took at least five breaks from it, no joke.

One of my favorite.

i skimmed thru a lot of the content. (sorry author) What I liked was the "old money" aspect of the story, the house with the history, her family background, but i suppose that's not what this type of book is about.

Parents of today's teens might learn a little from this fast-paced novel. Wasn't crazy about the ending, but don't want to give it away.

I really enjoyed this. It was funny at times, quite poignant, and well written. It was also interesting to see WWII through the eyes of a young German. I felt that what To Kill a Mockingbird accomplished for the subject of Southern segregation, The Book Thief accomplished for WWII.
Captivating and abundant with the complexities of love and race relations in Florida in the early 20th century.
