I read the first half of this book three times. I have no good reason why I stopped.

As per my usual, only reviewing volume 1. This one isn't particularly a very GOOD manga, but it's entertaining, cute, funny, and simple. It has a special place in my heart because, being simple, I can read it at about 80% comprehension in Japanese - so I make sure to get all the volumes and read through them as part of my struggle to keep my Japanese skills up to snuff.

I wanted to read this before I saw the movie, which I wanted to see because it had Meryl Streep in it, and the only word I can think of for this book is the following: Crass. Yes, it had a moderately interesting plot, but the writing was a real hack job. It was almost as if the author had said "Oh...perhaps if I sprinkle profanity liberally my readers won't notice the poor quality of my writing!"

Christina Henry failed to demonstrate how strong Maddy's will is. Though she had gone through a hard ordeal, I feel like her will could have been tested more. Having said that, you can see that I have rated 4 stars. I can't wait for the next book!

** spoiler alert ** The Girl Who Played with Fire by: Stieg Larsson is the second book in the trilogy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It is about a girl named Lisabeth Salander. Many, many bad things have happened to her and she has turned into a very guarded person. She has been raped and beaten, and so when a woman at her hotel is being beaten by her husband, she rescues the wife, and then when the husband (Richard Forbes) ends up dead, the wife is very angry. Salander is a very good computer hacker, also, and she uses those skills to get money to live a lavish lifestyle. There is a man named Blomkvist that wants her dead, and she realizes this. I felt like this book was really good, but I felt that it was not for my age group. The names of the characters and towns are really hard to pronounce, and the context of the book is vulgar. I think what makes this book unique is the fact that the “girl with the dragon tattoo” is such a different character. She is very harsh, and since so many people have done bad things to her (not that she hasn’t done many bad things in her life) she is just untrusting, and in my opinion, creepy. I would probably not recommend this book to anyone in my age group just because it was flat out confusing. There are three books all together, and I think after reading the first two, I am done with the series.
I've read this book before, but I didn't remember that until I started reading it again. I don't think I've read the whole series though. As I plan on continuing I guess I'll find out. This is a story about Flint of outworld. He Is a caveman of high intelligence, with an eidetic memory, and most importantly a kirilian aura of 200. A kirilian aura is often compared to a soul in the book and that is the easiest way to describe it. He is recruited by the government of Sol to stop the andromedan menace by giving other clusters of planets the ability to transfer ther Kirilian Aura into Host bodies. It's an interesting book, very Conan the barbarian in a way. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I would like to humbly thank Goodreads for providing me a copy of this book. With that said, renga is a genre of Japanese collaborative poetry which gave rise to the modern haiku style of poetry. The writers of this book have decided to use this collaborative form of poetry to compose a single book of 54 poems each written by a separate poet. Because these poems are meant to make up one single collaborative poem, all 54 poems should be read in one shot. Each poem reads as a response to the preceding poem. The introduction even states that each poet was given about two days at the most to write his or her response (except, of course, the poet who started the conversation) to the previous poem. Although each poet's style differs from the last, the poem as a whole flows well right to the end. If you are discouraged to read this book because you don't really care for poetry, you should still give it a chance. After all, the poems read like an artistic ongoing discussion causing you to forget the fact that you're reading poetry. I am not a big poetry reader myself, but I applaud the contributors of this book for creating a unique artistic conversation about the ideas and issues of America.
