If you can get past the creepy subject matter, this is a good book. Much better than the movie.

Wow! Hosseini's writing style is wonderful, painting a full bodied picture complete with the sights, smells and atmosphere of Afghanistan. Encompassing pre-Russian Kabul to post-Taliban invasion, it makes the reader feel what it is like to be an Afghan. It was heartbreaking, yet inspiring. I plan to seek out more of Hosseini's work, though I doubt it will compare to this masterpiece. I will probably read this one again, which is saying a lot.
always keep me interest

ummm. This book changed my life. I read it when I was in middle school and it was when I decided that I could be both a dork and cool. And that being a nerd was probably the coolest thing I could be. The rest my friends is history. Read it all ready. It's still good even if you're not 12. I'm serious. Particularly the first chapter. Even my political theory prof loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. By the third page I knew I was going to like it. Jeannette's story-telling is magical and enlightening. It's amazing how her recollections keep you suspended in place of simultaneous disbelief, humor, and horror. Although many of her memories are funny, her book reminds us of the indomitable and hopeful spirit of children, as well as the very real consequences of perpetual disappointment on their impressionable hearts and minds. Walls makes you revel in every small victory for the family, and sympathize during their chronic struggles. Although at times you want to shake some sense into her parents, or replace them altogether, you can't help but ponder the paradox of our struggles shaping who we become.

Not a masterpiece, but a really fun read. I named my new hematite-colored Prius Hema after one of the characters.
