This hitstorical romance kept me turning the pages as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I adored Michael Rafferty and found him crush and swoon worthy. Sigh... Even though this is the 3rd of the Chambers Trilogy, I really didn't feel as if I had missed out on anything - it reads like a stand alone. I enjoyed this book and am going to put it back in my TBR pile. I am going to look for the others in the trilogy to read them from beginning to end.
With the same theme as Drac and the Gremlin; this is a picture book about letting your imagination run wild. I love exploring the idea still, with this story taking place down at the beach. However the creatures they 'created' weren't engaging or interesting for me and the illustrations weren't of a style that appealed.

I put a review that suits all on the 2nd volume. I have nothing of note to say about this one.

This was my copy, from a co-worker, has been recycled. Some really good stuff on controlling my own attitude.
So, I'm not finished with this book yet, but I have to return it to the library and I wanted to write down my thoughts about what I've read so far. This is a book I will buy! I think it is perfect for me since I'm a "non-runner" and training to do a half-marathon. I do plan to run a marathon some day, but I feel like it's not my season for that until my children are all in school and I will have more flexibility to get in all those miles of training runs. I LOVE the premise of the book, that anyone can run a marathon. You just have to want to do it and follow the training schedule! I have always thought it would be so cool to run a marathon. I ran a little bit in high school, but have never been a big runner. This book was written as a result of a college class in Iowa, called the marathon class. The professors called it a seminar in fitness and mental health. It became wildly popular and had huge waiting lists to get in, members of the community auditing it and at the end of the class, everyone ran a marathon. So, one of the students a 37 year old woman decided to get the professors to collaborate and this book is the result. She interviewed a lot of the participants and each chapter is divided up into 3 sections: 1-the mental aspect, 2-the physical challenges, and 3-runners real life experiences. Each chapter represents a week of the training schedule. So, I LOVED this little blurb from one of the runners journals, she says, "Today there were times during the run when I started to hurt and waves of discouragement would hit me. When that happened I did what Dave said to do. Instead of whipping myself with a "Buck up you weeny" mental tongue lashing, I said, "Oh, there you are, pain; I've been waiting for you. Come run with me." The wash of relief I felt was immediate, profound, and invigorating. All the tension left my shoulders and gut. The ache in my knees and hips changed from one of external painful assault to one of internal friendly companion. My knees still ached, but it was OK. I watched my feet and enjoyed the sensation of flexing the joint in order to propel each foot forward. The sensation of movement was compelling and motivating. I like the metaphor of running for dealing with problems in life. I loved her attitude of saying hello to the pain or the trials and inviting them on the journey, rather than whipping myself for my faults or weaknesses. I definitely have tried her advice as I run and say hello to my foot pain when it comes and invite it to run with me, because I'm not stopping! I"m also trying to do this in my life. GREAT BOOK!!! I would recommend it to anyone who has a desire to run a marathon!

Jeffrey Sach's take on development economics (with a foreward by Bono). While he touches on many interesting points and highlights the endemic nature of poverty - identifying both World bank/first world policies toward the third world and the impact of disease and ecology as barriers to endign poverty - i found the book a bit cliched and self-aggrandizing. Would have been happier with more detailed analysis rather than a slightly dumbed down look on why we have to end poverty now....
Not Euripides's best work, but still interesting in its semicanonical way - Alcestis is particularly odd for its ambiguous combination of elements of both comedy and tragedy.

The movie made Kumar look a lot like my brother. So that was weird.

Recommended by my seven-year-old niece. Fun story about a thirteen-year-old girl who sees faeries. They cause her all kinds of problems, and she's sent to live with her cold and emotionally distant grandmother, who lives in a huge old estate that's crawling with faeries, etc. There are a couple of mysteries and some fun plot twists that I enjoyed, but on the whole I think the story is ultimately forgettable.
