An interesting read on social networking tools and how they play a role in how we organize as groups and cultures

I have been taking it upon myself to read up on some of the classic novels, if nothing else to see what makes the classics so great. This one in particular appealed to me after reading the plot. It seemed like something I would enjoy even in modern novels. VERY briefly: Raskolnikov is a young man that views himself as being extraordinary and above the law that governs the rest of humanity (a "superman"). He plans and carries out the murder of an old womon pawnbroker in Russia. The rest of the story consists of an in-depth study of the psychology of Raskolnikov as a criminal. I admit, it took me a long time to get into this book, and I did want to quit reading many times throughout... But I forced myself to finish and I'm glad I did. By the time the story ended and the epilogue wrapped things up for me, I had a slightly better appreciation for the book as a whole. The psychological insight of a criminal mind was quite intriguing, and this was my first Russian novel, so I felt like a learned quite a bit about the history of the country and way of life. I think if I had more of a knowledge base and interest in Russia, and St. Petersburg in particular, maybe the first half could have been more interesting to me. All in all, I feel that the same story could have been told in about 1/3 the number of pages. The paragraphs were really long, a lot of dry description was given (again, maybe if I was more interested and knowledged in this time period and location, this wouldn't have bothered me), and in general it seemed like it dragged on for way to long. Recommended for the historical and psychological aspects, but be prepared for a long and tedious read.

For anybody with latent wanderlust, this book will inspire you to dust off your traveling shoes and see the world. A must read for anybody who's always wanted to travel but let fear stand in the way of accomplishing this dream.

I just could not continue reading past chapter 3. When the author breaks point of view to explain that Methodists are not bad people, it throws me out of the story. I don't mind the paragraph long sentences, or the long winded descriptions, but once I was tossed out to consider the authors intentions, I have no willpower to jump back in to endure them.

I have no bloody idea why I put this book down. It is actually really good. I loved the characters, and Gin was extremely realistic (well as realistic as an elemental assassin can be :P ) It was incredibly interesting and fun to read! I stayed up till 4am to finish it! Goddamn it Gin and Mr. Sexy Detective (forgot his name hahaha. . . my list of book boyfriends is too long unfortunately) better get together soon!! Ahh the ending left me begging for the next book!! Recommended!!

This is written by 2 psychiatrists WITH ADD about their patients that have ADD. There is a bit of a focus on those of us that were diagnosed as adults and the troubles we went through not knowing we'd had this all along. So many times throughout the book, I was left thinking, "Oh my God! That's me!" It is informative and leaves me hopeful. If the first third of the book had moved a little better, I would have ranked it higher. But a good read all-in-all.

Great primer on religions of the world. I'm lobbying for the next edition to include my friend Dave's religion, though: Apathism.
