I actually really enjoyed this book. The author is a hip-hop feminist who writes about her struggle as a feminist and her love for hip-hop and her African-Ameriacn community, but how she is torn because the lyrics, media representation of her sister community, etc. I would recommend this book to anyone doing urban youth ministry, and the girls in that youth ministry.(high-school/college-aged. I'm including one of my favorite excerpts of the book: "I'm going to make God the main man in my life. When me and God's relationship is right, everything else just kinda falls into place. If work feels like it's demanding too much, I kick it with God and he reminds me of my purpose. If life's obstacles seem too much for me to handle, God wraps his arms around me and reminds me of what we've accomplished together in the past...If loneliness is tempting me to lay my heart down in a placce it can't helped but get stepped on, God reminds me that heartache is what tends to set in when a woman calls on a man to do the job that was intended only for Him. Fulfilling a hunger for a love unconditional, one that never abandons or disappoints, one that replaces the imperfect love of a flawed parent or never fails to come through in our time of need is a very heavy task. That kind of loving is best provided by a divine and perfect Spirit. By giving God his proper place, I free my relationships from fear--because i know that somebody out there has got my back. Regardless."

I do not want to diss this book because it contains some salient points about the art of making good decisions, but in an attempt to be relevant, the author tries to piggy-back on top of the popular NYT bestseller Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, which is a psychological assessment on the art of making skilled decisions quickly. LeGault dismsses Gladwell and other psychology as new age science, saying the downfall of our country is occurring because no one knows how to be analytical and make sound decisions based on observation. The author sights our growing economic and buisness decline in sound judgment as well as our lowly output of educated students. The only problem with LeGault is that few of his points are based on anything but anecdotes and second-hand sources. Who LeGault is mostly mad at are the people who make decisions he disagrees with politically (mostly liberals). If anyone read Gladwell's book, which LeGault pans, he or she would see that at the very least Gladwell backs up his observations and theory with research (which I would agrue is based on science and analysis even if it is psychological in nature). Because LeGault does not agree with the outcome does not mean Gladwell is not a "critical thinker." Any evolutionary psychologist could tell you that some of our behaviors are instinctual. It doesn't take an hour to size up emergency situations. But LeGault is correct to note that Americans tend to use emotion over reason way to much, particularly leaders making decisions of national importance. However, LeGault is being a bit deceptive when he claims to use critical thinking but choses to title his last chapter: How to Save Civilization in One Easy Step. Sound credible to you?

Inheritance may as well have been written by the gods. Earlier I thought it was impossible to name a favorite book, but I'm positive I've found one. Inheritance concludes the Inheritance saga with reverberating blows. Christopher Paolini has outdone probably everyone's expectations with this. Inheritance included intense details, suspenseful moments, shockers, surprises, character depth, depth into the mysteries of Alagaesia, and a tale well worth reading again and again. Paolini truly brings the feelings and emotions into the story. At each event, you feel like you've been fighting through Alagaesia to kille Galbatorix with the characters all along. When Eragon enters the Rock of Kuthian and finds the next generation of dragons, great feelings of joy will go throughout you. Or when Arya suddenly flies in with her dragon. Or through all of Roran's crafty plans and battles. When Queen Islanzadi dies. Paolini makes these events come to life. He makes you share your joy, grief, and committment. The book might have hordes of pages, but at the end, readers will still crave more. Inheritance is a must read for anyone who likes action, fantasy, or mysteries, wants to get away from this world and experience a great story, or gave up on this astounding series book one. Inheritance gets 5 dragons out of five.
