I read this book because of how often I see people blogging about it. I often find when I go to book store sites, or even Amazon it is a suggested read based on my prior searches or purchases. So I figured what the hoot i'd give it a go. I found the beginning to be rather slow,but I find this true of many books I read and I kept going. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the book from the second part on. I became attached to the characters and shared their confusion and stress in different situations. As in most YA novels there is a sort of love triangle, I guess there are sort of a few love triangles, but the one i'm referring to is Simon, Clary, and Jace. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with these kind of situations. I always have a favorite and then I get frustrated when they aren't the chosen love affair, or they are chosen and I feel bad for the other variable. Take Peeta, Gale, Katniss, Love love love Peeta, buttttt also very sympathetic to Gale, umm c'mon he had Katniss first, they're hunting buddies! But Peeta has always loved her, he saved her life in the games! And the battle rages on in my mind forever and ever. So it was with Simon, Jace, and Clary. But eww are they really related?! I'm team Simon, but I felt the love between Jace and Clary, and as always i'm torn. Anyway, one thing I particularly enjoyed about the book was it's setting in Brooklyn (where I live) and the constant talk of the Q train! That's the train I take! It's one of two trains that I can take to get to my house, I felt special knowing that. I will never look at a Q train the same, i'll look at it and think...Jace might be on there! In lieu of all the sites that are mentioned in the book, I was thinking of maybe visiting them and posting photos of them in a special blog. Would that be of interest to anyone? Then when you think of the book, read it, or re-read it, you would have a clear image of what they're talking about, not just imagining it. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who is a lover of Vampires, Werewolves, Demons, and kick ass hot fellas! But who isn't right?

Took forever to read this book. Did not like it for the most part. Too much description - could not get into the setting or the characters. I was extremely disappointed.

I enjoyed this book. It's a fast read like her first, Hunger Games. I'm very anxious to read the third book. I sincerely can't decide if I like Peeta or Gale more. This author has created one of the best love triangles out there. Catching Fire has taken the best of the love triangle from the Twilight series and the best of overcoming "the big man" from the Uglies series, and of course Suzanne Collins has mixed in her own great story and plot to make it her own. Overall a great read and I'd recommend it, especially since it's less gory than Hunger Games.

** spoiler alert ** This felt really long.... some sections of it flew and others dragged. I actually read book two first and didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed this one. I think Danny was a more likeable character. I found the historical information very interesting and ended up googling several of the events to get more information. I'd never heard of the molasses explosion before, that sounds so disgusting. The riot at the end just made me sad. It was interesting to tie it back to current riots and the devastation they have caused. For some reason, this one seemed to focus on the rapes which made me feel ill and vulnerable. I am sure that was the point. Connor seemed like a wasted character to me. I'm not sure if he plays a role in the third book but I don't remember him from the second book. I loved that Luther ended up back with Lila and Desmond. That was a truly happy ending and he knew how lucky he was at that point. It seemed silly that as wiley as McKenna was, he didn't think that Luther would open up the chest to see what was in it. It seemed so obvious.

Where to start with this one? There is a lot to offer in this book that is for sure. Conlon includes some history of NYPD, family history and his own experiences as an officer with the department. This is however only a small slice of what the department is like as there are so many diverse divisions and areas that these officers work. The stories Conlon tells of his time center around the Bronx and mostly deal with his work removing narcotics and firearms from the streets. The story just kind of ends at the point where he gets his gold shield as a detective. This kind of leaves me to wonder if maybe in a few years down the road perhaps we will see a book about his years as a detective.
