"King Midas and the Golden Touch" is a wonderful tale from the Rabbit Ears series as it details about the importance of how money is not everything. For the audio version, Michael Caine's narration is calm and elegant and Ellis Marsalis featuring Yo-Yo Ma's music is also elegant, which makes the story seem tranquil and proper for children. For this book, Rodica Prato's illustrations are beautiful, especially of the image of King Midas' daughter having long and wavy red hair. This book will surely catch the attention of anyone who loves stories about King Midas.

In the village of Bedsley Priors, Lillian Haswell is known by all as the apothecary's daughter. It is not allowed to have females in this type of business. She has many desires, one of which is finding her mother. Julie Klassen places you in this time period very well. It was a little slow and predictable in places. However, it was a good read.

An interesting historical fiction. Lots of social history included which was enlightening to read. I can't believe the major class differences and how corrupt some people can be. Loved the heroin Grace. Will have to check out more from this author.

Funny, just after reading this, a profile of another book about a kid who is diagnosed with Schizophrenia came out in the New Yorker. No mention of D'Erasmo's book in the chronicle of other novels that have tried to capture the inner mind in such a state. I admired this book. Enjoyed it. Felt at times that I was spending a bit too much time with the lives of the various characters, but couldn't put it down.

Despite being a Robin McKinley fan, I originally thought I'd give this three stars since I had some issues with the dialogue and lengthy explanations of things in the book. But I'm still thinking about the story, which says something, right? And I'm looking forward to the sequel, which unfortunately doesn't come out until sometime next year...
