This one was my favorite book until I read The Fountainhead. The one caveat is that the meat of the story doesn't begin until fairly far into the book; so if you're down for a chunk of exposition, then this is the book for you.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that Sue Bender lives deeply. She seems like she'd be a really friendly, down-to-earth person; I get the feeling that if I ran into her on the street in Berkeley she'd have the time to talk, or at least give me directions to the BART. It's comforting reading. I wrote down one quote from this book: "don't limit your vision. don't get attached to a specific outcome." I liked that.

As fall turns into winter, the end of days that Link's mother has been talking about for years seems to have arrived. The bugs, the weather, the crabbiness--everyone seems to be effected by the fallout from Lena's claiming in Beautiful Darkness. Once again, the southern gothic feel of this novel is superb, there's just nothing else like this series for intertwining Southern lore. Ethan's buddy Link continues to be the best friend ever and their camaraderie helps overcome some of the weaker plot points. Another cliff hanger ending points to more in this series, which is very welcome news.
