Found this book on a neighbor’s stoop. Later that day I met a 17 year old Russian speaking parrot, all white with pale blue around his black eye. He was in a cage on the sidewalk outside a vacuum cleaner store. I then went into the fruit store next door. When I came out I looked back at him, he was watching me with his head tilted. My landlords have a 50 year old parrot held captive in the windowless basement, alone, in a padlocked cage. His name is Shakespeare. I often hear him screaming. Well, the book. This book was written by Timothy—a tortoise who was unwillingly relocated (abducted) from the Mediterranean to England—and it’s sad, funny, insightful and true.

I think this book played a part in my conversion to semi-vegetarianism. It's disgusting and eye-opening, and therefore made me feel sad as I read it, because I'd gone so long without really knowing where my food comes from. I had a few doubts as to whether some of the madness she witnessed was just isolated occurrences (does this stuff really happen at every farm factory?) Disturbing as hell, not only for those who eat meat, but especially for those that are consumed

This book was very different from all the others. Then again, this was the first book in which Dresden was dead. I was surprised at how much stuff goes on in the spirit world. However, I have to remember that Harry Dresden is sort of a magnet for trouble, dead or alive. The ending was... well, I wasn't expecting it. Well, I expected something to happen, after all, since there are going to be a lot more books in the series, but I didn't expect that. I also didn't expect the person who had Dresden murdered. So, all in all, this book was kinda unexpected. But it was a good unexpected. I think. Anyway, the next book is sure to be interesting, that's for sure. Second time reading it Yep, this book is a whole lot different from the previous ones. For one thing, he's dead! But, Jim Butcher's writing has changed a bit, too. It's gotten more... thoughtful and less actiony (it's a word....). I really liked it. However, I can't wait till the next book where things will hopefully pick up. Last of all, I just want to mention how much I love Maggie. She's cute and awesome. I mean, what's not to like about her?

Anna was suppposed to be a metaphor for russia but she's more than that. No review of mine could put into words the perfection in which the book was written and the sudden pang of sadness upon closing the book, knowing you might not find another one like it. Why 4 stars and not five? Because to be honest, i fell in love with levin and kitty and it is the purely subjective bitterness in me that they are not the main characters of this story that caused this book to lose one star.

This was a really fun story about 4 amazingly talented kids who against impossible odds save the world. I plan to recommend it to my middle school child to read.

Funniest short stories this side of David Sedaris!
I remember really loving this book. I'm not sure if we read it as a class or if my teacher read it aloud to us. We watched the movie afterwards and that is the first time I can remember being annoyed at differences between the movie and the book.

I read this book a while ago and liked it for what it was but it is only really a short story. I read it in about an hour or two.
The crude humor got a little tedious from time to time, but overall I thought it was witty and clever.

Follow the maladjusted detective, Harry Hole, possibly at the end of his career, through the streets of Oslo in this search for a serial killer. I thoroughly enjoyed this, the depth of Harry's character was intriguing, and the comparison with his adversarial colleague Tom Waaler strings the reader along throughout. As a frequent business visitor to Oslo, I could literally feel the bitter cold of this city as I read, even through the English translation from the original Norwegian. Very much looking forward to the sequel, The Redbreast.
