This was an interesting book about one of the United States greatest naval disasters. It took place during Revolutionary War against a small British force in Massachusetts. While the account is fiction, it is based to a large extent on historical fact and captures a feel for both well-known and lesser known historical figures. Most interesting is the account of Paul Revere, with the author offering a far less flattering picture of his character than we typically read in the history books. I found the book a little slow to get going, but I was very interested by the end. I often found myself cringing at the errors and flaws that contributed to the outcome of the battle. I will definitely pick up more books by this author.

Stones into Schools chronicles author Greg Mortenson’s first person account of his journeys to Afghanistan and Pakistan as he continues to try to build schools for girls, his work after a massive 2005 earthquake and his unique relationships with people from all over the world. This book starts out hard to read, and it packed full of facts and notes to help you better understand what is going on. This ended up confusing me because it could be pages before you get back to the story. However, I did get into it because you can’t but help feel for the people that he’s trying to help. He brings communities together with schools, in an attempt to educate women because he believes that every educated woman can make a difference. This book helped me culturally to see that the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan are not so different from me, and really helped to establish them in a new light.

This fourth novel in the Hawkwood adventures was possibly my least favorite. While still very well written with incredibly engaging characters at every turn, the basic premise of the story was much more political and as a consequence this book featured a lot less of the 'swashbuckling' action that I've come to love about McGee's work. I found myself appreciating the same attention to detail the author is so good at, while at the same time struggling a little to get through the last third or so. I certainly don't mean to say this wasn't an enjoyable read - it very much was. I'd definitely read the next Hawkwood book, despite the slight change in modus operandi in this one.
Questions that arose while reading: Can you have children without giving up on your dreams? Is it part of the sacrifice that you lose your identity? Is this inevitable? How much can pedophiles be blamed for their behavior? To what extent is it a mental illness? A controllable urge? Are there pedophiles who don't act on their urges?

This is an excellent read for the first day of school. The book challenges students to confront their worries about school.

This was a very good book, thought I think I read another book like it. I read this book a long time ago and do not really remember it. I don’t know what else to say about it besides that I recommend it to kids 9 and up (Maybe older depends on the kid) and that everyone should read it. I may not remember this book to well but I know I did enjoy reading it.

This is awesome! It's especially good when read to a group of children, with cool voices and lots of enthusiasm. One of our most favorite children's books ever! It teaches observation and watching for clues, plus common sense... LOL thinking about it.

Tragic and beautiful. Depressing but worth it.
