I guess there's some good stuff in here, but with a title like this, you should expect the book to kind of suck. At least it was a quick read? If you are in business you should get two or three takeaways that make it worthwhile, but it certainly won't change your life.

I read this about 17 years ago and ran across it again just recently and read it again. It was like getting reacquainted with an old friend. It's the first time I've ever reread a book and it was well worth doing so.

Although I could relate to the time/places in the novel (my mom is an Irish Catholic from Queens of the narrator's generation, I grew up in eastern Suffolk County on LI, have been to Ireland and saw my grandfather and uncles faces everywhere!) I found it heavy and sad. Realistic descriptions painted, e.g. , "My parents, I have to believe, had a marriage that ran the typical course from early infatuation to serious love to affection occasionally diminished by impatience and disagreement, bolstered by interdependence, fanned now and then by fondness, by humor. That they loved each other was a given, I suppose, although I suppose, too, that for months, maybe years, when their love for one another may have disappeared altogether and their lives proceeded out of habit or the failure to imagine any other alternative." (p.52) Dealt with issues of finding meaning for one's life, the power or memory, and the yearning for love and connection.
awesome book, kept me intrested the entire way.

An entertaining book (which the movie closely follows). Perhaps the most fascinating aspect is the sheer difference in cultural norms from the time Fleming wrote the book and today. The prose is a bit rough and not especially artful, but it works well for the world of Bond.

Ah, this is a childhood favorite of my nephew's. He liked the movie, too. I consider this to be a "classic", and will probably by it for my grandchildren when they are older.

GREAT BOOK! When someone dies their soul is collected by a "death merchant" and redistributed. If agents of the underworld get a hold of these souls they are able to go to the surface and wreak havoc. Oh, and there are hell hounds, a kid that kill people by say "kitty" and general hilarity.

I question the authenticity of this book/of her perspective and it was written in such a way I had little sympathy for her experience. It never read as real or grounded in reality in any way.

after reading this several times and falling in love with treadwell's expressionistic ideas, language, and use of sounds, I decided to direct this play as a senior project in college. though i probably did it no credit, i wouldn't have chosen anything else. very profound, very difficult material. my copy has become a very fragile corpse.

I would give this book 3.5 stars. I liked the writing, but the story was a little creepy for me. Plus, the main character's reaction to her little sister being possessed by a evil spirit seemed off. It just didn't seem urgent enough. She was still going about her life knowing her sister was seriously messed. However, I did like Alexis's voice - she was funny and real. I would recommend this book to young teen girls who want a paranormal or ghost story. The title still confuses me.
