Even though I read this book years ago I still think about it all the time- its a story that never leaves your mind and is scientific, philosophical, magical and powerful.

Wow. This book was written at the height of the housing bubble. As such, many of its assertions are downright laughable. For example, the author claims anyone can (and should) get a home loan, even if you have bad credit and no money for a down payment. Also, the author reasons that the average income of homeowners is greater than that of renters; therefore, if you want a higher income, buy a home. Are you kidding me!?! Correlation is not causation. Certainly there were a few good principles in this book (which are outlined in it's parent the Automatic Millionaire), but many of the assertions and assumptions were so ridiculous, I must recommend not reading this book. Disclosure: I must admit I did not completely finish the book; it was just too painful.

I couldn't get into this book for a while. I ended up getting intrigued by it, thinking that Sebold wanted to send some kind of message. I definitely felt sympathetic towards the character, despite some confusing actions. It was like being inside the mind of someone who is mentally unstable. I still can't decide whether or not I liked the book.

Have always loved Amy Tan's books. This was not one of her stronger efforts. Just kind of fell flat. Could have just been me and the mood I was in. I was surprised not to be more captivated, since her others all pulled me in and kept me spellbound.

** spoiler alert ** Jesus' 40 days in the desert. Five people go into the desert and meet up with a woman and her husband who should have died. Jesus inadvertantly heals him. Jesus goes to a high cave and fasts. The others fast during the day but eat and drink at night. The trader (the man who should have died) wants a woman there because she wants to get pregnant and gets money from the others. Jesus dies but his spirit comes to the woman and heals her after the trader rapes her. Trader's wife and woman run away, as do the other men. A wee bit sacrilegious, but a good story.

Very good book to an amazing series. I learned more about vampires and the draw of vampires to certain people. Belle and Edward have an amazing connection and I enjoyed watching them fall in love.

How could I not love a book that ends with a manhunt in the Viennese sewer? Books commissioned with a screenplay in mind have a certain novelty too.
