I think that this book has a good meaning of how beauty is only skin deep and that what really matters is who you are not what you look like.

I mostly skimmed this one. Natalie Goldberg or Julia Cameron are way better to read if you really want help with the creative side of life. Or perhaps I read them first and this one just didn't have anything new to add. I did like the section where she talks about some famous people who have journaled. That was pretty interesting.

I found this book extremely relevant given the increased role technology plays in kids' lives today. These "forwarding" incidents have even happened at my brother and sister's high school and have been happening for the last few years. The panic the parents feel over the entire situation/main plot, and their utter inability to deal with it, is extremely fitting. After all, they didn't grow up with this technology, with this kind of porn. The way Schulman develops each member of the family, even the little daughter Coco, is extremely intriguing and realistic. The very last "chapter"/section also really resonates and was not what I expected to read as the novel's ending, but a good choice all the same.

Phew! This book was a literal workout at almost 1000 pages, making it often uncomfortable to read. That being said, I agree with the reviewers who felt this was not up to the Pillars of the Earth standard. It was not. However, since I love historical fiction, I was quite fascinated by the events leading up to and during World War I across the world. I thought it was particularly interesting to read about labor-related issues at a time when unions in our country are seemingly at "war" in some states. This definitely kept my attention the whole time and is definitely worth the "workout," and I look forward to the continuation of the trilogy.
Am I becoming a curmudgeon? This book to me should have been about the dangers of an extremely loud and obnoxious child who gets a comeuppance when the crocodile/lion/snake eat her to quiet her down. I bought it for Swannanoa based on the reviews. Sad to say, I wish I hadn't.

This is a great first novel. It reminds me of a young Bret Easton Ellis. This book will not be for everyone, however. The themes are probably too much for a mainstream audience, which, in my opinion, is a great thing! Milan Best Western - I am still cracking up over this character, who is definitely based on a real-life "celebrity." I have a great respect for someone who is willing to write this type of book. I hope that Lynn Brewer becomes a well-known author. She has a great amount of talent, and with this being only her first novel, it is most impressive. Jesus Christ as a gay celebrity - controversy! I definitely recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and who isn't also suffocated by Christian dogma.
interesting true story about a serial killer in Florence. Hannibal Lector is loosely based on this killer. The case remains unsolved, but the writer gives his opinion of who he thinks the killer is. I learned a lot about the ineptitude of the Italian justice system.

His books are normally scattered, with random asides, but this one was out of control. It was 400 pages with no real organizing structure, and it could have easily been 150 with some good editing.
I learned about different types of werewolves :-)
This is a very good book about vampires && all the drama that they go through. it also has a little love story between two of the characters in the book
