My friend Mike, who reads the most random (but most interesting) books, told me about this one. The author, Alan Lightman, is both a poet and a physicist. In Einstein's Dreams, Lightman muses about what happens in Einstein's mind when he falls asleep: he dreams about worlds in which time is not linear. Sometimes, he imagines that time is a circle: after a certain period, everything starts over again. In another dream, he sees time not counting up, but counting down to some event. Each dream is described in poetic rather than scientific fashion (Lightman must be quiet the poet to refrain from using math entirely). Also, each dream is described in one to three pages, so this book can help kill time. Get it?

I read this book a while back when I had no idea what lsd, speed, & all those drugs mentioned in the book were. So I really didn't know why she was hallucinating in a closet & stuff like that but I liked it alot & I still keep reccomendating it to people hahah.

I was so eager to read more Sarah Waters, I bought this one in hardcover.....I was disappointed in this book after the magnificent Tipping the Velvet. The ending felt like a sucker punch and the characters didn't compel me as did those in Tipping the Velvet. It has elements that interest me: seances, historical backdrop, intrigue, romance and lesbians..... but the whole just didn't work for me. The ending wiped out any affection I might have had remaining for the book as a whole.

Gritty murder mystery. I loved the characters and the story. Very fast paced and original. THe ending is not necessarily happy and it left me feeling out of breath like I had just been punched in the gut. I would have hard time recommending it due to foul language and violence.
