Graphic novel. Amazing. Frustrating. Beautiful.

I didn't think there was anything special about the writing or the use of plot, but the character development was well done and there were some interesting passages in this book dealing with relationships and family (just not any bigger arcs or themes). 2.5, I'd say.

A boyhood favorite, I find Bunter did not age well. Formulaic slapstick gets monotonous after a while, and William George Bunter is ultimately a very unsympathetic protagonist. I just didn't want to hear from him any more, and that was three chapters in.

So far, I like her other book "Music For Torching" better. This one is entertaining- inspite of the detailed descriptions of donuts. The ending image was the best part of the book.

If you are a Grisham fan looking for a mystery, this is not it. A fun book about an ex-NFL player playing football in italy. I was there last October and knew some of the places in the book - great fun
This had the potential to be an incredible story, and I learned a ton about birds--esp. hawks. Part of the problem is that Matty/Marian was girl power taken to the extreme. Matty (who later went by Maid Marion, it's complicated) was the one who came up with all the good ideas for Robin (who began life in the story as Fynn) the one who was talented and the real leader. That ruined it for me. It's not that I don't want Maid Marion to be a strong character, it's just that one character being strong doesn't mean that none of the other characters can measure up. There were also too many coincidences, and I could have enjoyed the story much more if it hadn't been trying to force itself into the Robin Hood mold. I really liked the glimpse of the real story I saw underneath.

A wonderful biography of Teddy's youth that leads up to his presidency in 1901. This is a fantastic biography with lots of "why this is important". In short, it had all the hallmarks of a good history.

My favorite Murakami short fiction collection is still The Elephant Vanishes, but "Honey Bear" actually made me weep.

I felt this one was a refreshing departure from the I-know-it-all media theorists. The author is a semiotician and a novelist and his ability to travel on both sides is extremely evident.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas is a 24th-century cop investigating a serial killer. And falling for a gazillionaire playboy suspect in the process, of course. The literary equivalent of a candy bar. Empty calories (and hilariously awful dialogue at times) but still delicious.
