I liked this book. The premise kept me wondering what the kids would do when/if the reached Death Valley, so it was very difficult to put down. I almost wish this book had used alternating narrators because I wanted to know what was going on in the minds of all 4 characters, but I think that would have made it too long. Despite the fact that I'm very liberal about letting my students read whatever they want, I must admit that I still have lingering doubts about whether to recommend books that deal with suicide. I will take this one to school, though, because I think it's got a lot to offer.

The mysteries in this one are pretty enjoyable, the recipes are generally pretty good, and the way the two tie together is especially satisfying. To this day I'm still unable to prepare garlic bread without thinking of Bugs Meany and his crew attempting to hide their dastardly garlic bread theft by chewing copious amounts of parsley, since parsley will sweeten even a camel's breath. So how did Encylopedia finally expose their crime? SPOILER ALERT. He smelled their hands.

Blah. The dialogue is pretentious and forced. The plot jumps around. There is a story within a story that disrupts the main storyline. I don't know what good to say about this book.

After a spell of reading 50's and 60's sci-fi 'classics,' this was a super fresh, original and funny dose of more modern sci-fi. The only thing that irked me was that his characters frequently had names like 'Carnival' or 'Fox,' but the stories were superfresh.

This book had a much more suspenseful action ending than the first. The characters are developed a little bit more, but they're still very one-dimensional. I feel like the grandparents have no personality. And Kendra and Seth are very stuck in their roles as scaredy cat and brave kid who. Other than that though, the books are entertaining and the ideas are unique. Probably a VERY good read for younger people.

"Of Mice and Men" by Steinbeck is a very heart warming book about two guys who are on the lamb, (Runing from the police). it all started when Lennie Small was accused of raping farm owner's daughter. so they run away and were hired to live on a ranch and work off their debts. During the story, all types of things happen to George and Lennie. George Milton is a clever and cynical man, while Lennie is a big strong guy with a heart of gold, and much innocence. the only problem is that he wasn't very bright at all. this book is very emotional, and i would reccomend it to people who like emotional books. i won't spoil the ending, but something does happen, and only one of the two is left alive. i would rate this book 4/5 stars

I waited to read this one because I did not want Crichton's books to be over but I decided to read it and it was worth it. This is one of his best books. It was the exciting and thrilling adventure I hoped it would be.
