Blackwood Farm was a fine entry into both Vampire/Witches lore, and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of Ann Rice Storytelling Of Old, which is to say, I wasn't bored out of my skull through 2/3 of the book. They do ramble on, don't they.

I have always had a big interest in the royals and so I really enjoyed this book. The book focuses on rumors that have been handed down over time about different members of the royal family. It is fun to read and see if the rumors are correct or just rumors. The author also explains when possible how this rumor may have begun. This book was great fun.

Absolutely amazing! I have no words for this book! It captivated my mind. I could not eat, sleep, drink or do anything. I felt like sticking to this book whatsoever. Just amazing. Please those who haven't read this book, please read it. Though some may find it really stupid or anything (i found a lot of reviews like that) it was amazing to me. I am just in love with Illuminati. Anti-matter, particle physics, Vatican City, etc etc etc... It makes you travel all along Rome. Im just in love with this book. It's a book that really woke me up after the not-waking-up books i read earler.. God, i love this book man!!!

I won this book in the First Reads program. I really enjoyed this one. It is a sweeping saga of the Kelly family who survives the potato famine in Ireland and makes a new life in Chicago. It is a bleak story at times but one of survival and human triumph as well. I found all the characters to be realistic and I really cared about them, particularly Honora, Michael, and Maire. The horrors of the potato famine and the absolutely inhumane treatment of the Irish by their English landlords were well told, although the author does tug at the heartstrings a bit too much. The book is also full of Irish legends and stories that add a touch of magic and enchantment to the story. I did find the first part of the story that takes place in Ireland to be more engaging than the second half in Chicago, but it was a good read all the way through.

This was surprisingly fun. I picked it because it was on the non-fiction food list and Eggplant was in the title. Perhaps also because I've never lived alone but have eaten alone many times and an essay about that activity seemed interesting. It also reminded me of my mom's description of summers alone - my sister & I would stay with my dad on the other side of the country, and she had this big chunk of space and time for herself. Mom's Secret Summers, I think of them, and one of the few things she mentions is Eating Alone. My favorites were: Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant - you have to read the one that titles the book, obviously, but it was quite enjoyable to read about how the idea was born. Dinner for One, Please, James - much more like I eat alone. My daughter is an oatmeal & crackers sort too. We are told it is Bad but the essay sorta cleared that up for me. No its not. Beans & me - also funny but reminded me of growing up. We ate a lot of beans. Asparagus Superhero - hysterical. I laughed a lot. Making Soup in Buffalo - lovely description of the food remembered best from each place she lived. Potatoes & Love - recent discovery of Nora Ephron and her writing. I enjoy it.

The end became a little cheesy, but I LOVE reading anything about the hardships of people trying to make it through life in America from other countries. It makes me realize that my pathetic little life really isn't all that bad, compared to what they went through.

This was amusing but I thought that this wasn't the best Moore book I've read. I liked Fluke better.

I didn't much like this book. Tatiana de Rosney is a good writer, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters and the story was of little interest to me. The first half of the book was slow and laborious to read, and while I liked the second half of the book better as things picked up, ultimately, I still didn't care much about the outcome. I'd try another one of de Rosnay's books, but I'm glad to be done with this one.
I don't read books like this a lot, because I'm not really a fan of historical romance/thrillers. This one was a very fun read, perfect for a rainy day when you don't want to read anything too heavy or serious.
