This book was a bestseller in Europe and was described as "gripping" and a "thriller". Although, there were many interesting themes, I did not find this book either gripping or a thriller. However, workplace bullying, the impulse for revenge, and the notion of evil (on both a macro and micro level) were pretty absorbing.

Just a genuinely funny book. Nothing great, but not too bad either. The setting of dinner party is quite hilarious and perfectly sets up the Q&A section the book. Answers those questions your always afraid to ask your doctor, just at the title says.
A solid, liberal assessment of what needs to happen in this country. Obama considers each of the issues in the book fairly thoroughly, before giving his assessment of what needs to be done. Very little of these ideas are new, but Obama is clear and thoughtful. I recommend this to people who care about politics; liberals will gain some firepower, and conservatives will learn about the other side (and maybe learn to argue against it more compellingly). Only three stars because he whiffles a little, or at least I think he does, in sections on "Faith" and "Family" - it feels like he's trying to appease voting blocks here.

When the four Penderwick sisters vacation at a quiet country estate the place is soon turned upside down - for the better. This award winner reminded me a bit of the Elizabeth Enright books I read as a child.

1998 National Book Award for Young People's Literature 1999 Newbery Medal Winner A quirky and unique book--has the feel of a summer camp story full of odd kids, except that these kids are criminals and they are digging giant holes in the desert. The slow revelation of Stanley's family history was interesting. Loved the plot, but parts of it left me confused--was the only treasure that Kissin' Kate Barlow buried Stanley's grandfather's suitcase? The author made it sound like she had been robbing banks and individuals for at least a decade, so I didn't get why the Warden would have just stopped looking for the treasure after Stanley found the suitcase. Things like that challenged my suspension of disbelief, but the story was so much fun that it didn't really matter.

OMG...it had been so long since I read a Dean Koontz book, that I almost forgot what I love about him...This book totally reminded me. From the very first page, I was hooked. It didn't even take me 48 hours to polish this book off!!! Darkfall begins with a series of strange murders. At first, the police believe it to be some type of gang war because the victims are all members of the most prominent crime family in town. Then, you find out that all of the murders are actually being committed by a voodoo witch doctor who is out for revenge, because the crime family killed his brother! Then, when a policeman begins to believe & follow up the voodoo theory to solve the crimes, the voodoo witch doctor sets his sites on the policeman's children!

I'm just not into most comics. True life. Someone, show me the light!
What a great book. I really liked the love story in it; it was simple, sweet, and just plain good. That said, it's not just a love story, the love story is just weaved into a much bigger story. There were a few parts in the book that I didn't like because of the subject matter (there's a scene where a little girl is raped, and another where a mother and daughter are almost raped and killed. There's also some descriptive violence). Now that I've finished the book it's like those moments don't match up with the overall tone of the book. It's written in journal entry form and so it's easy to pick and put down whenever you want. It ended differently then I expected. I really enjoyed it.
