This is an anthology of 13 Western stories edited by Bill Pronzini and Martin Greenberg. All stories take place in various locations around Arizona. It was published in 1989 by Fawcett. It is most likely out of print. I picked this up at a used bookstore, I'm sure, though I can't remember which one. The anthology contains the following stories. All are reprints except for the Estleman entry. All the stories are enjoyable. There wasn't a dud in the bunch. Some are better than others, of course, but all are excellent. The editors did a fine job of selecting stories. The Tonto Woman by Elmore Leonard The Angel of Santa Sofia by Loren D. Estleman The Hunting of Tom Horn b Clay Fisher One Night in the Red Dog Saloon by Hal G. Evarts Buried Treasure by Stewart Edward White Two-Gun Farewell by C.S. Park Black Horses by Jay Lucas Way of the Law in Calico by John Prescott Specimen Jones by Owen Wister The Tombstone Hearse by Edward D. Hoch The Toll at Yeager's Ferry by Brian Garfield Decision by Bill Pronzini The Code of Arizona by W.C. Tuttle

Let me start off by saying, this book is completely different from anything I've ever read. It's a futuristic space travel sci-fi kind of book - which I hardly ever read - but it's not so far into the future that it's unfamiliar, and it's not so sci-fi that you have to stretch to understand what they're talking about. The characters are compelling and sympathetic, and it's very well-written. I liked the premise, and I think this book is well worth the time spent reading it. However, I've stated before my belief that what a person does in their bedroom is their own business, and the further into the book I read, the more I felt uncomfortable with some of the comments made. At the point where I stopped reading, nothing really graphic had taken place, so I can't say whether the book got more graphic beyond that, but for me personally, it went just beyond what I can reasonably tolerate and I decided not to proceed. That said, if you don't find innuendo offensive, you will find a very well-written and intriguing book. It just didn't happen to be my personal cup of tea, that's all.

This is the second of Dan Brown's books that I have read. In response to reading "The Da Vinci Code", I picked up this novel in order to understand the allusions made, and have found that I enjoyed this one even more. As a scientist (or at least a guy who dabbled in the sciences) I was intrigued with the quantum theories and his character's development. The hassasin was just as lovable as the homicidal albino monk in "Da Vinci Code". It was though Dan Brown was honing his characters' identities for the "Code", with careful considerations to all their ideocentricity. Plot development was similar with the veiled antagonists and plot twists in the end. The masons/knight templar are a great myth to expound on, for they were already mythic to begin with and thus provide a huge foundation to cultivate another tale. It is certain that Dan Brown has a skill in sensing excellent opportunities for generating publicity through his writing. Dan Brown's Church is a natural antagonistic entity, one that the reader can learn to hate. As with any great story, it is important to generate or link this kind of emotional draw to the reader. Brown has the talent of doing such things with both books mentioned. I had fantastic time learning about Rome, the Vatican and the wondrous architecture there. Because of these books, when I travel to Europe, I will take a Da Vinci and Angel's Tour of the city.
great, great classic. there are so many lessons to be learned!
This book was really fascinating at first, but I got bored of the history of the Mormon religions towards the end.

laugh out loud funny. I kind of felt bad laughing at the character but the situations he gets himself into are both hard to read and funny at the same time.

I loved this story. Even though it was an assigned book from my sophomore year of high school the story is touching and endearing. It captures the past from the point of view of a small girl quite nicely.
