Meh, this was a totally servicable medical thriller. It was not at all well-written, and the plot was tied up a little too neatly for my tastes, but it passed several hours of sitting around the airport, and for that I am grateful. It was strange that the whole book was about illegal organ trafficking, and then the afterword was mostly about how important organ donation is (rather than about the realities of organ trafficking). I get that the author is more likely to get a reader to change their organ donor status than to get readers involved in the fight against the illegal organ trade, so it's a practical use of his afterword. But then why not have some legal organ donation in the plotline? I didn't exactly come away from his story thinking "wow, I should make sure and donate my organs," which I don't think should have been too hard a reaction to invoke in me, if that was really the author's goal.

This is one of my favorite books-- developed characters, an interesting mystery plot, a thoughtful and satisfying love story-- it has it all. I recommend reading Strong Poison first though.

I liked this much more than I thought I would. There were some holes in it, but over all I really enjoyed it and found myself reading it late into the night TRYING to finish. (I couldn't. Had to finish on my lunch hour.) And yes, I will look for the next book in the series.

I started I Romanced the Stone by Marvin D. Wilson, then put it down. This book was not for me. Chapter One is a How-to on crack cocaine. Chapter Two is a condemnation of my generation, those of us who grew up in the “hippie” era, except I knew no one Marvin described. It made me angry that he lumped all of that generation into drugs, free love, and tuning out. Then a couple of weeks later, I started over from the beginning. I still felt the same after those first two chapters. But I kept reading. Marvin is very open about his failures and the spiral downward his life took because of drugs. He not only hit bottom, he began to dig a hole and just kept digging. Deeper. Until he lost everything. His home, his job, his family. And yet his family did not abandon him. When he was not willing or able to save himself, his family saved him. And he began to see that his life was worth saving. That he could come back from devastation and drugs, with the help of his wife and family, a spiritual recovery program, and God. Lest you think Marvin had never been taught to turn to God, he says in his bio that he is the son of a Christian minister. But crack cocaine was more powerful than what he’d been taught, more powerful than his love for his wife, more powerful than Marvin himself. Marvin writes his life. Not mine. I came to see that this is his memoir, his experiences, his words. They are powerful words. He went into the depths of Hell and came out with hope and a future. Marvin D. Wilson stood up and told his story, a dark tale of drugs and a bright hope of redemption. I admire Marvin for writing this book and sharing his story with others. It’s a dark story, but it has a bright ending, one which others may find inspiring and life changing. There is not rating system for books like there is for movies, but I recommend it for adults, not children or teenagers, unless you feel they are sinking and need a rope to grab hold of, a true story of someone who survived.

Whatever you think of Eco's semiotics, he weaves an awesome tale about Renaissance Europe. But his general erudition and his overall sophistication in matters of meaning and sense really makes the book worth it. I don't know whether or not it would measure up in comparison to Paracelsius, but you really get the sense that Eco has spent lots of time pondering the thinking of the middle ages. Smart Fiction!

This is a poetic re-telling of the story of Oedipus. The god Apollo is given the task of putting the story to music, and you see the events happening through the god's eyes- even the gods are unable to stop Fate or Necessity. The book is simple sometimes, a bit obtuse at others; it might not make sense to you unless you have a good understanding of the myth and Greek culture in general. She gives a lengthy introduction in the back of the book though, which could be helpful. Certain portions of the poem are breath-taking, some are genius. She does a fantastic job of preserving the feeling of the original myth; she re-tells the story in great detail, but she doesn't add too much, or make it too elaborate. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in or familiar with Greek tragedies. I read it twice through just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

In this book a rune stone is stolen and needs to be found before the theives translate it and find the treasure. They will run into knife throwers,armed theives and booby traps. The whole book is awsome so i can not really say what the best part of the book is. Their where no worst parts in this book. I liked this book because of all the action and how they always know what to do. I also liked how they where so smart and brave enough to do all this stuff.

the reason I only give 3 stars to this book is because I hate denial books. But the last pages was a reason to hope for a good sequel.
