I read this book for a book club and at first I wasn't that into it. It was one of those books that was so easy to put down and forget about it. But later I really started getting into the story and enjoyed just reading one chapter at a time. It was like one chapter was a story by itself. I learned a TON about Pakistan and Afghanistan that I didn't know before. It made those places seem more real to me.

Definitivamente las novelas de misterio, que presentan teorías complicadas y rebuscadas de eventos históricos poco explicados son, como se dice en inglés, "not my cup of tea". Si bien la novela es divertida y atrapa casi desde el principio, resulta demasiado "truculenta" para mi.

This was on a list where readers were conjecturing possible Caldecott winners for 2009. The illustrations are clean, simple, uncluttered and fit well with the idea of a kitten who is more adventurous than his siblings. Great readaloud for 3-5 year olds.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Ted is the golden child of Wynette, Texas. Meg is the wild child of famous parents... Ted's life is perfectly planned out, until Meg arrives in Wynette. Meg throws a monkey wrench into his well planned life. Starting by helping her best friend realize that marrying Ted is not what she really wants. From that beginning Ted and Meg have a combative relationship which kept me smiling, laughing and sighing till the end. Ms. Phillips has once again put together a humorous, romantic story that is just pure fun to read.

I really enjoyed this follow-on to "Pillars of the Earth". I loved the strong woman main character who bucks tradition and does things her own way. I would definitely recommend. Even though it's 1,000 pages, it doesn't feel wordy and it's one you don't want to put down.

One of the funniest books I've ever read. Franken's indictment is often hysterical, and always richly documented. Sadly, you leave the text somewhat pessimistic about the future of American politics. It seems that the right-wing media charlatans of which he speaks continue their ways unmolested or even barely challenged.

(I'm not exactly sure if this is the right version - when I read it, it didn't have a "study guide" - but I couldn't find a better ISBN) MAJOR DISCLAIMER - Don't read it until you're ready to read it. It's not going to change your mind about sexual ethics unless you want it to. I initially bought this book (several years ago, used, at a library book sale) to make fun of it. I added it to my collection of "heresy books", along with kooky word-faith stuff and books with funny titles (e.g. "One Woman at a Time") - I had no intention of reading any of these. I read it when I was ready. It's pretty good - he provides context and vision for a newer, more nuanced approach to sexuality (and tangentially, to women in Church leadership). His is a voice from an interesting perspective, as he's not personally vested in the "issue", as a straight, married, monogamous Church leader. It's worth a look.
