it was clever and a little shocking...it kinda told me that i should stop being so stuck up and selfish...(not that i am but that was the moral) and to care more about the truth then what you think.

No matter what his subject, Nicholson Baker’s view of reality is always slightly askew. HOUSE OF HOLES,A Book of Raunch, is no exception as he turns his fictional talents to the world of pornography. Whether a reader should consider it pornography or a send-up of pornography is a good question. It toes the line between them but comes down more on the side of a satirical romp The "House of Holes" is a world unto itself, a pornographic amusement park where any desire can gratified. Nicholson gives a passing nod to ALICE IN WONDERLAND by having people sucked into this world through all of kinds of "holes", one, to give an example, a opening in the back of a laundromat dryer. And there are golf holes, drinking straw holes, holes everywhere when you begin looking for them All kinds of people, male and female end up there, and a series of vignettes follows them around. What various characters find, in this sexual wonderland, are most kinds of imaginable sex acts, many of them involving disembodied sexual parts which gives Baker the opportunity to employ his imagination in describing them, sometimes sounding as though he were writing sexual sci-fi. One chapter has a "pornmaster" machine which is supposed to cleanse the world of bad (cliche'ed, worn-out descriptions) pornography. But the pornmaster operator laments, "the more porn we've sucked out of the world , the larger the monster has grown. This wasn't in our forecasts. We thought there might be small anomalies of spontaneous generation, of course. But this - this is a personification of polymorphousness unlike anything the world of human suck-fuckery has ever known. I used to work as a trainer at Ocean Playground. The squid show there was nothing compared to this." Nicholson provides as much "polymorphousness" as he can think of in 250 pages. In an uncharacteristically semi-serious comment, Nicholson writes "It was interesting and exciting but also a little sad, because all of these penises had no clue what Polly, Donna, and Saucie were all about as women - what they believe in, what their plans were." Baker is not a moralistic writer but almost by accident that may be really what Baker is up to - to describe sex disconnected from any meaningful context, and to describe it in such a exaggerated way that it makes the reader reflect on the sexual grotesqueries of our society, as evidenced by a multi-billion dollar pornography business, one not apt to disappear anytime soon.

After I started this book I realized that I have already read it before. It kind of stinks that I bought the same book twice, but I guess I'll read it again. This book is set in Alaska which makes it a little more interesting.

Something New was fantastic, intriguing and drool worthy. Cameron Dane created a believable relationship involving three very different personalities. There were times I had to stop due to the orgasmic chemistry churning between Abby, Rodrigo and Braden. Its not often I get so turned on by reading a book. Now add mystery, phenomenal sex and heart wrenching love and you have this wonderful story. I have never read a ménage that held my attention from start to finish. This is a guarantee great read and has become on of my favorites. Reviewed by Trudy Coleman DIVA RATING: 4 Divas HEAT RATING: Flame Link:http://www.deviantdivaseroticbookrevi...
If you read anything by Virginia Woolf, be sure to read this one! While the presence and absence of the magnetic and charming Mrs. Ramsey effectively bookend the novel, the central character is actually her wallflower houseguest Lily Briscoe. As she spends her time observing the family and painting, she embarks on a metaphorical trip to the lighthouse that serves as the promised but unfulfilled destination to the Ramsey children. In particular, Virginia Woolf beautifully captures the passage of time in this book--the rise and descent of a thrown ball, the seasons of neglect that fall upon the Ramsey's summer beach house, the ebb and flow of a dinner party.
Another brilliant book from the king of fiction; Stephen King. Every new volume of the series seems to step up a gear which isn`t easy as there is 7 volumes in total, but credit to Mr. King, he somehow manages to do it. Before reading this volume of the series, I thought that he couldn`t improve upon the previous one, & with the title `Wolves of the Calla`I thought they were just going to be hunting Wolves or something for the duration of the book(Wolves in the literal sense), which didn`t really appeal to me, but was happy when I found out what it was really about. The story starts out in a remote town where unlike the way it is here in our world, twins are the norm, & singletons are rare. Every generation a group of rides called the Wolves comes & takes one twin from each family & leave the other behind. Eventually the children are brought back (by train), but are changed. They start to grow extremely tall & become fools (why no one seems to know). And now they have been spotted again, but unlike previous times, the townspeople want to make a stand. This is where the Gunslingers come in. They hire them to defend their children against the wolves, which they agree to, as it leads to another magic ball. I loved everything about this book. I especially liked the obvious homage to `The Magnificant Seven`, which although I have not seen, I have seen `The Seven Samurai`by Akira Kurosawa which the Magnificant Seven is based. The story as you can imagine considering the inevitable confrontation with the wolves, has a lot of violence, twists, moments of sorrow & of joy. Many new characters are introduced in the story too, particularly Father Callahan, who by the end of the story has joined their Ka-Tet. This book was a real enjoyable read. 5 Stars!

I don't read as much "hard SF" as, um, "soft SF" I guess, but this is defintely "hard SF", and it's definitely solid. Pretty much everything takes a back seat to tech in this novel, despite the fact that Bear has crafted an engaging heroine in Patricia Vasquez. It's been a while since I've read this, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Although this book was not one of my favorites it was not one of my least favorites either. Tiger Eyes tells a compelling story about a girl going through a rough patch at home. Her father has been shot and she has been having a hard time copeing. Although ends up being diagnosed with depression she later meets a boy that helps her through it all. I would probably recomend this book to just about anyone who likes dramatic books. On the other hand, if you dont like slow moving books dont read it.
