I picked this up for light entertainment in between some heavy reading, and I guess I got what I deserved. It is fluff, not even decent writing. The premise of the story is cute and somewhat intriguing, but it is predictable and drags on. A much better read along the same lines is "P.S. I Love You" by Cecelia Ahern.

This was my copy, which has been recycled. Adult historical fiction. This was my first taste of the author, and I loved the book. It is wonderful! Clean. It is a Christmas story of Union and Confederate troops and Georgians at the end of the Civil War. I read it just before or during my only visit to the city of Savannah, during which i was able to walk the same streets and historic districts described in the book.

It's not what you think it is. Don't come looking for happy Valentine stories, but it is a book with economic prose and blistering moments.
A quick read for a tween book. Alternative fiction of the start of WWI which leads the Darwinist nations that use DNA and genetic engineering to oppose the Clanker nations (Nations relying on technology and war-machines). Add in zepplins, two plucky teens and it's a fun book. For those unfamiliar with World War I, you get enough of a feel of the political unreast. For those knowledgable of WWI, you'll find some things you are familiar and some creative differences.
I liked this book because it was as much about the scientists included as their discoveries. Of course now I want to go pick up more thorough biographies about some of the people that it covers... The very end of the book starts to drag though. After a good overview of Pauling's political activism, things get a bit jargon heavy and we stop getting the same level of personal detail that made the rest of the book so interesting.

This is really a 4.5* book, and would have been a 5* if there had been more to Katherine in the first 1/3 of the book. At 25, Jasper is a good-for-nothing rakehell, with no apparent reason for his selfishness. We quickly discover that he does have a conscience, but silly Katherine is scared enough to run home to the country for 3 years. When she returns she should be older & wiser, but it takes a social disaster that could ruin her family before she thinks of anyone but herself. I know that I fell for Jasper long before Katherine did. But what really made this a great story was the unfolding of their love - slowly and beautifully and very believably. I liked that it took time and shared events and talking to each other to help that love develop.

I think I "stole" my copy from someone (Nate?) ... it will not be returned.

A fabulous book with a "Little Shop of Horrors" leaning. But, don't worry parents, it all works out in the end for a positive outcome. The highest praise our family gives a book is that we would want to have it in our personal library. And, this is one of those books.

I had never read this as a kid, but knew bits and pieces somehow. These were a fun and fast reads. The playing with words I particularly enjoyed, much like The Phantom Tollbooth. I remember the first text more having read it twice and seen the Disney movie.
