Even though there are some parts that felt a little unrealistic or not wholly thought-out to me, I really enjoyed this one. It focuses on an island where the outbreak of a horrible and very deadly virus is devastating the population. The story is told in the form of a journal of sorts, written to main character Kaelyn's former best friend Leo, who is away at school in New York, as she describes the outbreak and what happens in their town as the result of it. It reminded me of Life As We Knew It, but...less bleak. I'm definitely planning on reading the next book in the series ASAP!

I usually don't like fantasy, or any books in which the plot couldn't really happen, but I loved this book!

Ok, so this is sad, but I'm reading this book and truly feel like I've read it before, but since I can't be for sure and I'm enjoying it, I'm just going to keep on going.
I'm one of those strange people who isn't a huge fan of the "classics". But this was the selection for bookclub, so I gave it a shot. It was an ambitious pick and I'll be curious to see how many of the girls actually got through it. I didn't know if I would, but I am glad I decided to finish. There were some good twists in the story and I really like some of Dicken's descriptions. My favorite character was Joe. Also found Havishem to be a fascinating character, although she definitely freaked me out. In my opinion, the book could have been much, much, much shorter- but apparantly Dickens got paid by the word, and he squeezed every dime he could out of this book!

I realize that this book was published in 1992 and is very dated. I tried to set that aside while I was reading. The book was truly terrible. I gave it a 2 star rating because I did finish reading the book but it really should be a 1

4 1/2 stars Navy SEAL Justin Brandt gets a call from his best friend, Turk, to check on Turk's sister, Ava, because she's in trouble. Justin has always watched out for Ava even when she didn't know it. Justin broke Ava's heart nine years ago when he left her. She's never trusted another man since. When he shows up at her door when she's is trouble, there is no one other than her own brother she would trust to help her. I breezed through this book. The chemistry between Justin and Ava is steamy...their history makes things even hotter for them. Most of the story is about them running from "something" but not really meeting up with much. A few things get unexplained, though it didn't detract from the story. Also introduced in this book are Callie and Leo (Turk). I would have liked a bit more about them. Their part of the story was a little less believable. What I really liked was the push-pull between Justin and Ava. In some romances, it ends with the characters saying they love each other and that's that...happily ever after. This one was more...love isn't always enough. They've always loved each other, but that doesn't mean it will work. Plus, happily ever after doesn't mean that it isn't difficult or scary. I read this book without having read either of the 2 previous books - Coming Undone Harlequin Blaze 315 SEAL team Book 1 and Risking It All Harlequin Blaze 327 SEAL team Book 2. The other characters are mentioned and play a part in this book, but it wasn't necessary to have read those books.
This one is not as good as Sarah Plain and Tall. I read Sarah Plain and Tall when I was in 2nd grade. I loved that book so very much and when I found out there were more I had to read them. This one was not as good as the first but it was still pretty cool.

I didn't love it quite as much as book 1...because I feel like the main character is having a harder time changing in this book. She seems a bit more stuck in a rut / in the previous book she was grasping change and rolling with it. In this book she resists it and is falling back into old traps/old addictions. Still good. Still want to see where she goes next.
