This book was relaxing to read. A wonderful look at the flower-cut industry at every stage, breeding, growing and selling. Good source of information without being too hardhitting.

** spoiler alert ** book of the week R4 - I know, I know; said that I was going to give celebrity memoirs and biographies a miss this year but this one looks interesting. Building a house in the wild always gets my attention although this one will probably not be a trunk cabin with a turf roof to keep the goats on. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/... blurb - Proulx's first work of non-fiction in twenty years tells a personal story of designing and constructing a house in harmony with her interests, work and personality. Having lived a peripatetic life, Annie Proulx decides to build a house where she can end her days. It does not quite work out that way when she falls in love with a 640 acre of remote Nature Conservancy land in Wyoming. Read by Laura Brook Sheesh, but what a whiney, elitist bint. The main enjoyment I have had with this is that our builders were here listening with me and they were in hysterics that she was blaming anyone and everyone that the road to her gaff was impassable in winter and *stamp foot* no one to plough it every day. Abridged by Elizabeth Reeder Directed by Gaynor Macfarlane.

Tells the stories of a girl growing up in Chicago. Beautifully written vignettes, full of raw emotion, childlike narrative is a combination of innocence, depth, and struggle.

Definitely not one of my favorite books by Caldwell....if you are looking for something light and optimistic, this is not the book for you. *note: Book gives a good lesson as to what extent men will go to, in order to obtain power.
Something this easy and fun to read hasn't come along in a really long time. I love the humor and cant help to reminisce about a time long past when i first read Tolkien`s Hobbit and couldn't get enough of the world he created too. With Flanagan you just don't know where the adventure leads and as the second book had such a tremendous victory at its end, but left things quite open too, im interested what the next battle will be.
LOVE it!

I kinda wanted to claw my eyeballs out trying to get through this book...it was for bookclub and it took forever for me to get through a relatively short book. I loved See's other book- Snow flower (can't remember the whole title), but this I couldn't get into. A lot of research but not much story.
Echoes of The Sun Also Rises and The Great Gatsby. I loved it.
Good, but I wanted to to be so much better. Expat family, two sisters who are rivals, dad is correspondent during the Viet Nam War and mom really just wanted to paint. I was reading a book about China and the Cultural Revolution at the same time, so some of the history was interesting, and the prose was lovely, but I hated the modern day scenes and the whole book came up short for me.
