I found it hard to get into this book. It went in too many direction without bonding with characters. Good facts. Scary possibility, especially since the book is based on some fact.

I love this series so far. I listened to the audio version and I had a hard time following all of the politics but I think it might've been easier to follow if I had read it myself. I love the writing and characters and the cliffhanger at the end left me wanting to jump right in to book number 3.

4.5 stars ***{first read in August 2011}*** “Will has always been the brighter burning star, the one to catch attention — but Jem is a steady flame, unwavering and honest. He could make you happy.” Clockwork Prince was a bit slower at times than Clockwork Angel, but this book was haunting, heart-breaking and both the plot and characters were a lot deeper and more defined. It was painful yet satisfying to see Will find a solution to the main source of his pain and anguish. “Lies and secrets, Tessa, they are like a cancer in the soul. They eat away what is good and leave only destruction behind.” It's strange that Will appears to be the strongest characters with the devil-may-care attitude that makes him so intriguing, but in Clockwork Prince, you see that he is the most fragile character (emotionally speaking) but only Magnus Bane knows this. I don't think even Jem or Tessa suspect how much pain he's in or what fears and hopes he's been hiding, because Will always put the needs of those he loves ahead of his own needs, their happiness and safety above his. He puts on a mask to play whatever role is needed of him to protect those he loves and he does it with single minded determination that is just painful to watch. “When Will truly wants something,” said Jem, quietly, “when he feels something — he can break your heart.” Will and Jem are two sides of the same coin, and at times opposites in character like water and fire. Where one is, kind, gentle, steady and reliable in character, the other (Will) is emotionally unstable, energetic and forceful in personality as well as being cruel and sarcastic when the mood strikes, and the mood strikes him a lot. I just wish Ms Clare had evened out their personality a little by giving Will a bit of Jem's steadiness and Jem a bit of Will's fire. Still, Tessa, Will and Jem's relationship drama is fascinating, and their anguish is made bearable by the side stories and personal struggles and relationship drama of characters like Charlotte, Henry and Sophie. I just love these three fascinating characters so much and wish they had their own books. I'm also curious about the silent brothers but I have a feeling we'll know more about them in the next book. Listening to Clockwork Prince audiobook was a treat and I can't wait to see the drama and resolution unfold in Clockwork Princess.

I thought this was a great read! Seems that people either loved it or hated it. Yes, it was disturbing at times, but life is often quite disturbing. It was a good story of relationships between fathers/sons/brothers, amidst cultural/political upheavel. I recommend it to anyone who loves a good read!
