A good and fair book about Gnosticism. Wright uses a more approachable writing style than in his other books. Again, he is baiting the reader with a title like "Have We Missed the Truth about Christianity?" The answer, as always with Wright's subtitles, is no.

joseph heller's catch-22 is my favorite comedy to date. the wit and irony that flow throughout this organic piece of literature makes it something really easy to enjoy reading the first time... and still catch yourself laughing on the hundredth read. man... now i want to go read it again...

So far this author is a very impressive descriptor. To quote a line from the book the author also "employ[s] his mind as a canvas, constructing images that were increasingly elaborate and precise." This is my first impression of the work. I'll post a full review with a Q&A with George Strattman after I've finished the first in the trilogy. I am reading the entire trilogy.

Many was the dreamy sigh I spent over this collection of poems and plays. Oh, darling William, keeper of my collegiate heart!

This was a cute book. Definitely for kids/teens, but not terrible. There was some info dumping going on and some strange word changes (you know where in order to make a story seem fantastical enough they change the names of things like peanutbutter?), but otherwise the story itself was decently involving and pretty well paced overall.

The story of Lina, a Lithuanian girl in 1941, who at 15, has her life torn apart when the Soviets decide that her family is dangerous to them. She is taken, along with her mother and younger brother to a work camp, not knowing if her father is even living. As she endures untold hardship, she tries to fight for a dream that will keep her alive to tell her tale. A fascinating story - I had never heard what had happened to all these people living in the Baltic States, and I love learning about history. It was very sad though, and I never felt any redemption - mostly because the people were never given any redemption, and for the most part, their story was left untold. A great young adult read though.

I absolutely love this series of books, tons of detail which I love but not for everyone!

To say this autobiography is so bad it's good would be to slight the special magic of the late Liz Renay's unique flair for the written word. For those unfamiliar with Ms. Renay, she was a b-movie girl, Vegas showgirl, mafia gun moll, self-styled multimedia artist and (perhaps most famously) one of John Waters' most memorable actresses (despite only appearing in one of his movies, "Desperate Living"). Reading this book is like watching "Valley of the Dolls" or "Mommie Dearest" for the first time. The camp is largely unintentional but written with such a raw, fresh sense of humor, who cares if you're laughing with or at the author? When Liz compares a stripper falling down a flight of stairs to a bag of canteloupes, just laugh! For better or worse, the world will never know another talent like Liz Renay. If you want a frothy, kitschy, oddball treat, you could do worse than to crack her cover.
a compelling read for anyone wanting to learn more about the Holocaust from the perspective of someone who lived through it (though I suppose he did kill himself thereafter)
