Book 5 finds Harry hot on the heels of a pair of thieves...who've made off with the Shroud of Turin. Turns out some demons have plans to use it for evil purposes...who'd of thunk? At the same time he's having to dodge hit men and figure out how to fight a duel with the Duke of the Red Court Vampires...to end the war between the vamps and wizards. All in a day's work. New characters include the other Fists of God (warrior knights who carry swords with nails used in the Crucifixion); the Archive (whom Harry dubs "Ivy"), a seven-year old girl who posses them entirety of written human knowledge...and a fondness for Harry's cat; and Kincaid, Ivy's bodyguard, who'll factor into later books.

I remember that when I read it I thought it was the best book in all the world. Well you know, young age. In all together I think it's a fascinating story.
Stienbeck is the poet of California's farm country - the Salinas Valley. This tragic book tells the story of Lenny and George, their plans for a bright future at the end of the Depression rainbow, and how the best laid plans "of mice and men"...wee, you know the rest. Tragic, classic read.

sad but true, powerful and scary
Wow. Wish there were a 4 1/2 stars button. I listened to this one, but I wish now I had read it so I could underline some of the beautiful passages. This story is written as a journal of a young girl set in 1660ish in Boston and surrounds. It asks interesting questions about religion, good and evil, the worth of education, the role of women, family relationships, political expediency, and what happens to us after we die. All as part of a beautiful descriptive narrative. I do not know how much historic truth it contains, but at some level it just doesn't matter. It is about people making their way through a different time and place, and that is enough.

A tragic not-so-much-love story and a weird, creepy plot. Hmmmm, sounds like my kind of book! Even after reading it, I never really figured out how you might deal with the fact that your wife is suddenly inhabiting your daughter and just how would you deal with that? I'd suggest this to anyone; not for the fainthearted since it does touch a bit on the taboo.

still trying to figure it out....but there are serious moments of existentialist despair in here that i relate to

this is one of the best books on christian discipleship ever, written from a man best known for his theology-challenging, push-the-envelope views on unconditional and unmerited grace.

This book covers the two world wars and describes what was happening in Europe prior to each war. Stefan Zweig was an Austrian who was forced to leave Europe because of the second world war and ended up committing suicide in Brazil in 1942. He was a successful writer in Austria and Germany but his books were banned by the Nazis because he was Jewish. He was acquainted with many famous intellectuals of the time, such as Romain Rolland, Sigmund Freud, Yeats, Borgese, Gorky, Ravel and Joyce. This was a fascinating memoir of that period in time.

This was a good one. I liked it better than the last one.
