Jonathan told me "this book is for chumps" but I LIKE IT. Oddly, not something I ever read as a child, though I was certainly familiar with Shel Silverstein.

** spoiler alert ** I think this book was good. It has a little bit of a cliffhanger at the very end. Claire lied to Cam saying that she has a boyfriend bak home in Florida even though she really likes Cam and Cam also likes her back. At the end, Massie learns that Todd's dad bought a house and Claire doesn't know yet. I don't that Massie wants Claire to move to Chicago! This book was very exciting in some parts. Also this book is focused on Alicia which I think is cool! I recommed this book for anyone who likes drama and romance.

Typical martial arts instruction book, but very high quality. Also, goes into some depth about the history and theory of Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. I'll be studying this book for a while.
Sloppy first novel promises what it can't deliver. Though the tropes and themes in this novel are intelligent, they are ultimately under developed. Murphy produced a leviathan of a beginning and middle that was too big to be brought to fruition by the end of this book. If you're looking for yet another story about a bored bogger raised by a tough-love Irish mom, this is for you. Otherwise don't believe the hype--this book is highly overrated.

A good example of Amy Tan. There are some really poignant moments in this book between mother and daughter. As always, a bit depressing, but great for China lovers and those who have strained relationships with their mothers.

I have to actively stop myself from giving it one star. It's not that it is not immaculately written, or that it is all consistent and blah blah blah but the content is so blah. In the goodreads description, it uses the word "realistic" and I could almost die laughing at that concept. Every character, and there are LOTS, is the very bestest baddest awesomeest at whatever they do. Normal mages have one warren? I have nine. Did I mention there is also a dude that has a sword that banishes you to an alternate reality where you pull a giant wheeled things on chains for eternity instead of dying. Also, he kills gods and have a harem of dragon b*tches to do his dirty work. Seriously. Even the minor, unpowerful characters are either in thrall to gods or are the greatest assassin who ever lived or blah blah blah blah. Things only exist in interest in a point of paralell. Maybe I don't want to only read about the awesomeest crew. That's precisely why Tolkien is so good. It is a book about fictional mythological characters that feel like normal people, including some funny assumptions about how the world works. Heck, even resurrected Gandalf feels more like a real person than over 90% of the characters in this series. It is well written, I just don't care.

Really, really slow through the first volume. Put up with it. My professor called it an extremely slow, fast read. Once you get about half way into the book, the action picks up.
