I LOVED this book. Seriously, I am "book drunk" after reading it. I keep thinking about it and re-reading my favorite portions. I borrowed it from the library, but obviously will have to buy my own copy! It was a pure delight to read! What "Jane(Austen)Junkie" doesn't long to step back into time and find herself in Regency England? The concept of Austenland is just that-for the character, Charlotte, and the reader! I really felt like I was living vicariously through Charlotte! The original novel (Austenland) was a fun read, but I felt like this was even better b/c of the mystery aspect. The whole premise of women going to Pembrook Park and playing make believe gets even more complex when there is a mystery...only is it a make believe mystery or a REAL one? Such fun! I loved the Inner Thoughts of Charlotte and how her real life (shown through flash backs) played out in her stay at Pembrook and how she grew as an individual through her experiences in "Austenland." I liked that she was described as "nice." Not flashy, not eccentric, just nice and how she could still be delightfully interesting to read about. The book was laugh out loud funny-soo many witty lines! It was also very suspenseful and so well done that I was actually jumpy while reading it! I love that a book can have that effect! And the romance was charming-so nicely done! I highly recommend this book and am crossing my fingers that they will make a movie of it too! In a word, it was DELIGHTFUL!

I picked up this tiny book to assuage my boredom on a flight to Oregon in the middle of an crazy semester of student teaching. Hendricks immediately grabbed me and pulled me in with his concise, no-nonsense style that comes from decades of experience teaching people from all walks of life. It's basically a condensed version of his video series, "The Seven Laws of the Teacher." I found myself pulling out quotations that I know I would do well to hold close to me throughout the duration of my teaching career. This is truly and inspiring, practical, insightful book for educators and comes with my highest recommendation.
A very odd sort of mystery and almost written backwards. It starts off with meeting the entire family, airing everyone's dirty laundry, and establishing that nearly everyone has a motive to commit the murder. The murder itself doesn't happen until about 2/3 of the way through the book - and when it does, it's no mystery at all - we're told exactly who, why and how. The rest of the novel just deals with the aftermath, and the little bit of suspense comes from wondering if the murderer gets away with it and if other characters get to keep their secrets. If I'd expected a traditional murder mystery, I would have been really disappointed. This is more like a standard novel that just happens to contain a murder than something that conforms to genre expectations. And it doesn't have the witty dialog that Heyer is known for -- an unusual novel any way you look at it! All the characters were very interesting and vivid - but I can't say I truly LIKED any of them, so if you're one of those people who have to like their characters, you'll probably have a difficult time of it.

Good look at Iran-Western relations mainly with Saddam Hussein. Dated, the book was published in 1991 and it was out while Iraq was still in Kuwait but Allied forces had not started bombing or moving Saddam out of Kuwait.

Lullaby, my fourth fav., is better than some others because of the characters - always one of the strongest points in a Palahniuk novel. I loved the dementedness of them in this book. The story was damn original and intriguing at it's least, and I'd love to re-read this one. I have clear, short reviews of books I love most because there's little more to say than I love them. Of course, Chuck's older books aren't as fresh in my mind as other books so my recalling ability to correctly review them isn't on par. Regardless, love this one.
Awesome!

Guilty, guilty pleasure. The literary equivalent of gobbling down Halloween candy.
So far, it's the weakest in the series...although I'm not sure why. Well, for one thing the b-story involving the arsonist is just plain terrible. You have no interest in it, and it's just an annoyance when it breaks away from the main story. Perhaps I'll give it a re-read, maybe it's more tolerable a second time around.

Need a book to entertain you with wit and fun, but no deeper meaning to ponder about? Try the steampunk-y, smarter and way funnier version of Georgette Heyer for beach reading (or even a mini holiday in the bathtub). Totally recommended like all the books in the series.

Me encantó este libro. Larsson te deja colgando al final de cada capítulo. No pude dejarlo.
