Can't get into this. Putting it on hold until I get into a different mood.

Women are sorely neglected in our modern biblical learning. Fiction or not, this story gives us a glimpse into what life must have been like in the time before Christ.

This book is subtitled "a guide to compassionate living," that basically says it all. It is a guide to the Buddhist teachings of opening the heart and mind through tonglen meditation and lojong slogans. All her writings are clear and productive reads.

This was really different from the novels I've loved by Wally Lamb. It's a collection of writings by women incarcerated at the York Correctional Institution, where Lamb led a writing workshop, and helped the women in his classes find their voices and tell their stories. The stories are interesting, all unique, and very moving. It's also interesting to read what Lamb has to say about his impressions and opinions of the women he got to know and care about very deeply.

Not often do I get a book I don't want to put down. Started out very strong -- lots of intrigue. As some of the questions were answered, I began to lose interest a bit. But, I kept reading through the lull and was pleasantly surprised at the climax and ending. DEFINITELY worth the three bucks for my Kindle!

this is one of those books that you remember for a long, long time. It informed me- i never knew about the French Jews who had to flee when the Nazi overran France, nor about the Jewish community in Italy. But, mostly this book gave me hope- about the strength, beauty, grace & compassion of people, in spite of, and sometimes, because of, their circumstances. It's not 'just' another story about Nazi resistance, though it is that. It's a challenge to all humans, to consider again how we must live, together, within our difference, if any of us are to survive.

This professor explains Rowling's writing method, from her foreshadowing and symbolism, to her play on words. He really picks out the details that I missed when reading it on my own.

Don't understand the rave reviews for this book. I found it overall quite tedious, the main character fairly unlikable, and the writing stilted and repetitve. There were some interesting facts in the book, but they were presented in a very workman-like way. Dialogue was dry and generally boring, and overall, very little actually happened. Can't say I'd recommend it.

This is her first book, are you kidding me? An anthology of stories, all dealing with the Indian-American experience, and all great. Makes me want to be a writer and pen some stories about the Filipino Jewish New Yorker living in California experience.
