I was introduced to the Famous Five books by my father who read them as a child. The second book in the series is my personal favourite as you already know the characters from the first story and so the plot moves along faster. To me the book shows how different children view authority. George is the rebellious one who although has justification for disliking the tutor, Mr. Rowland (he does not like dogs), she shows little respect for him or her father. Anne on the other hand feels that Mr. Rowland is there to help them learn and although she is scared of him like the rest of the children, she often has to be coerced into doing the "wrong" thing. The book uses maps, secret tunnels and codes as its appeal to children and although I personally find it exciting and enchanting I can see how it may fall out of Consciousness in the modern day context when childrens activities like scouts, girl guides and exploration are being replaced with gaming, social networking and other forms of technology. Similarly, the illustrations are fantastic and move along with the story expertly, I just wonder if they would be as relevant/striking in the minds of children of today.

So far, I've been enjoying it a lot. In case of making mistakes, people normally say "I'm only a human being" but when they do something briliant and recieve compelements from ppl around they don't say: " Yes! I've been amazed myself too, I did it because I am a human". Being a human itself is a magnificent oppoutunity for making the most of staying in the world.

A book about a small village overcome by the plague. I new the babies were going to die, but I cried all the same. What would I do in a major disaster? Would I be able to take care of my own children? I guess the point of the book is the struggle between belief in God and nature. I'm glad we're allowed to know the workings of the world and not held as witches because we have a little knowledge. I'm thankful I have a Father in Heaven who loves me and is mindful of me, even when I am experiencing great pain. I hope my faith would be as strong after going through as severe a trial. It gave me a lot to think about. For Cassen- there was some very frank talk about sex, bodily functions, and gore, although I didn't find it as crude as most current fiction. You may like it, but it is definitely not a fuzzy, feel good book.

I don't know that this was meant to be a "fun" book, but I had a lot of fun with it. I also have a lot of fun putting things in alphabetical order, so I guess you'd better beware.

This was a great read. The first part was okay, the middle was amazing, then it got slow, then the end was great too. I couldn't put the book down toward the middle of this book. It was sad, creepy, romantic (I squealed out loud in one part- I was so happy), and suspenseful. READ it! (It's a classic afterall)

I am very into Metaphysics, on all levels. Linda Goodman, Raymond Buckland, Lao Tzu, Manley Hall, Chakra Systems, Existential Living. This book goes beyond all that. I am sooo exited to see it here on Good Reads! Chakra work, creating your own reality, energy transference, and an excellent resource list. I use the incense recipes in the book at home. They smell great, and she even tells you how to blend the ingredients so that they don't separate. ( which was giving me a hard time ) It is backed by a Wiccan, degree awarding college, Woolston-Steen Theological Seminary; The author being the Dean of the online portion, but it is soymuch more useful then just a Wiccan certification book. I consider myself eclectic, and this book has enriched almost every aspect of my studies. This is a definite buy for anyone who craves an intelligent coverage on Metaphysics.
