I haven't read any books about faeries so I can't compare Wings to any other books in the same sub-genre. What I can say is that Aprilyyne Pike has made a fan out of me! This is a great debut novel for Ms. Pike and for a new series. She has done a great job on creating a beautiful world that I wish really existed. Wings has a little bit of everything in it: drama, friendship, adventure, and love. I like how Laurel grows as a person throughout the book as she learns to accept what she is. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

A wonderful combination of stories with each chapter focusing on a different character at an English-language newspaper in Rome. I almost put this book down after the first chapter because the character was uninspiring. I'm glad I continued. I worked in newspapers for 6 years when I was young and I recognize this environment, these characters, this strange view of reality. I re-watch "All the President's Men" for the same effect: they got the newsroom exactly right. The Imperfectionists lets us see life from the point of view of several characters who all interact in ways that I found surprising. Towards the end there is a delightful account of a loyal reader; and it surprises me no that other accounts of newspapers have NEVER taken this point of view. I need to thank Rachman for that. I recommend this book, especially to anyone who has spent even a few months in the world of newspapers.

Very interesting ethnography about a world and lifestyle that most wouldn't think still exists.

Every time I read this— which is a lot, a lot— there’s another familiar face I’m thrilled to see. It’s like family. And while I’ve always got this handy to flip to whatever story I feel like, now and then, I just have to get all the kids together and read it front to back. This time, it was “Hurrah for Capt. Early” that grabbed me more than it has before. Damn, these stories are the best. The best. - - - May 2010: Mmm-hmmm. Felt like taking this everywhere with me today and for the record that’s never a bad idea. Also for the record, favorites are “The Tonto Woman,” “Tenkiller” (Ben Webster!), and (of course) “Fire In The Hole.”
includes a "treatment of the contrast between the modern worldview and the worldview of virtually every other culture in history" (Marcus Borg)

A first person account of a boy with Tourette's syndrome - I had no idea of the psychological turmoil that underlies the outward tics that characterize this disease.
