This is hands down my favorite book. The simple way Lee dealt with complex issues is jarring in its elegance. I truly loved the characters and the setting. So, so good.

Not a good book if you are looking for answers. Did allow for really good discussion during bookclub- it was great to hear various perspectives about the book. None of us enjoyed it in a "wow! great book" type of way but I do think it got us thinking a bit. Great conversation starter if nothing else.

It took me two tries to read this book. The first time I just wasn't into it. William Faulkner names Sherwood Anderson as an important influence, and since I can't stand Faulkner, it came as no surprise that I quickly put this book down. Some months later I gave it another try. This time I appreciated it more. It's one of several works published in the first half of the 20th century that explores the darker underbelly of small town life. Anderson's cast of characters, or "grotesques," as he calls them, are people who have tasted life and found it sour. People who have been defeated or unfulfilled. The book is not a continuous narrative, but rather a collection of portaits. The "grotesques" seek out George Willard, the 18 year-old reporter for the local newspaper to talk to and share their stories (usually at night). He is young, hasn't experienced much of the world, and is not yet a grotesque. An interesting book. If the subject interests you, as it does me, try also Edgar Lee Masters's Spoon River Anthology and the poems of Edward Arlington Robinson.

Wonderful read! I really love how he completely understands what us Mom's go through. It really is a never ending job, but it's good to know I'm not the only one who feels like I am screwing it up! It's even better to know that I am not screwing it up! Loved it!
I learn a lot
This one is the first in a series that's a little bit of combination of Indiana Jones and Witchblade. Considering the publisher and format I wasn't expecting much more than a couple of hours of light diversion, but was happilly surprised by well-drawn characters, a tight plot, and good writing. A fun time to be had by all.

This is a fictional story about Sarah, a girl growing up in the Arizona Territory in the late 1800's. That doesn't sound all that interesting, but I could not put this book down. Sarah was such a likable character, and I was happy when things went well and shared all her pain and grief through her trials, which were certainly many.
