Another Archer Mayor Joe Gunther winner. I liked this one very much. Rape is every woman's nightmare and Mayor treated it with realism and the deserved respect for the character. His books tend to be unemotional, so the fact that he decided to cover this subject is a little surprising. But they always include plot twists and turns that are sometimes predictable, but sometimes a complete surprise.

Some very good material on historic orthodox Lutheranism. It is the author's intent - unabashedly- was to convert and convince the reader to become a Lutheran. In my case, he was unsuccessful, but found a receptive ear. There are great insights and helpful considerations in this fine piece of reflection and fairly good (albeit brief) reference list.

I'm not at all sure what I think of this book. Logan has told me time and time again that I should read it, and he can rest easy now that I have finally gotten around to it. The real inspiration to read it was the section of Drawing Down the Moon devoted to the real, live Church of All Worlds (CAW) that started up in the 1970s in response to this book. How intriguing, thinks my head, and so I naturally have to read the book. One one hand it seems like a premise to go on about all the fun, exciting, and adventurous free-love, new-age, etcetera of the 1960s and '70s. On the other hand it's a wonderful story that reminds the reader of the power of love and discipline in one's live. Many of the concepts presented by the CAW are concepts that I have found in one way or another throughout my life. But then, I'm a filthy pagan-hippy. I think I would have loved this book if it weren't for all the high-flown new-agey language that the CAW members started spouting in the last third. I was deeply enjoying it, and then there was all this "waiting is filled. . .now through sharing is a growing closer..." and so on. It just put me in mind of one too many guided visualizations, color breathing workshops, and other new-age babblings. I prefer plain, un-ornamented, non-euphemized language. Would I tell you to read this book? Probably, depending on who you are. Will I read it again? Probably not. . .but mostly because there are so many books out there that I just don't have time to re-read books that don't thrill me to my toes.

Who'd have thought that such a clever book could be written about such a common place item! The kids have really enjoyed it.

Great read. Interweaved the historical developments of California, including the various cultural and economical components, into a very well written novel. Great story plot - couldn't put the book down until until I finsihed it.
