I read this book for work. If one more agent said, "It's like the DaVinci Code," I was going to scream. By page 100, and the first mention of the Holy Grail, I literally said aloud, "Oh, this isn't about Mary Magdalene, is it?" Then called a friend to confirm that I was right. One giant scavenger in which the author perfected the art of the cliff-hanger chapter ending. Personally, I think this book made people feel smart while sucking a bit of their brain out.

Well, I can't say as though this was a badly written book because I really enjoyed the story here. But, it wasn't really in keeping with my personal morals and I have to admit that I skipped sections of this book due to (blush, blush) very descriptive sex scenes. I realize that lots of people love these books and if you do, you'll probably love this one. It just wasn't my kind of book. Sex and language were high. I won this book in a giveaway. And if anyone enjoys these types of books and would like to own mine, I'll be happy to send it to you! Just send me a message. :)

Another of Hamby's books--featuring such classics as "Ode to my 1976 Toyota Corolla" and "Ode to my Mother's Handwriting." This book also contains various poems set in Paris.

How can I say this, so much happens in this book. Death. Love. Friendship. Fencing. Satire. Con jobs. Thievery. Blackmail. Running. Hiding. Depression. Happiness. Humor (might as well be called Satire). The craziest combinations of swear words. [My favorite]. Lies Lies Lies or and more lies. It's been a while since I'v read this, so I can't give you the most detailed review. But this book blew me away. I found it at the library and took a chance. Best decision ever. Fantasy lovers will love this.

This is the story of the Moffatt family of New Hampshire. Wes Moffatt is a local cable television celebrity who claims to be an authority on his small town's history, including the Talbert Treaty signed many years earlier by the Native American inhabitants of the land and the white settlers. His wife, who everyone, even her children, call Sister, is a former nun who maintains her highly religious sentiments and has visions of the future His son, Daniel "Boone" Moffatt, is the town's police chief, whereas his daughter, Veronica, is a nurse who drinks too much and takes too many happy pills. Then there's Reggie, who was kicked out by his wife and lives in Cinderella's Castle in Disney World. Much of the story is narrated by Daniel, who is visited on a semi-regular basis by Satan, but who also forgets the Latin spell his mother taught him to get rid of old Sticks (as he is called in the book). The main plot line involves a group of presumed Native Americans, led by a woman called Sarah Running Doe, who attempt to claim the land and the trouble this causes for Wes, who claimed that he has seen the treaty that granted the land to the white settlers. He, of course, can't produce it because it's one of the many tall tales that has been his stock-in-trade for so many years. Other plots include Daniel and Veronica's attempts to cajole Reggie to return to New Hampshire for their parent's 50th anniversary; Daniel's several run-ins with Satan (including a harrowing scene on a plane and in a forest clearing); Veronica's strained relationship with her two daughters; and a serial killer who terrorized (and terrorizes) New England. But it is also a tale of redemption on several levels. The story has much to offer: comedy, touching moments, horror. Its main strength is the endearing characters in the Moffatt family. It's mostly an enjoyable read with a too quick (and conveniently neat) ending for my taste.
Very easy-to-read, all-in-one-sitting contemporary romance book with a great HEA.
Good stuff

The last of the Nero Wolfe books, published after Rex Stout's death. Although the mystery itself is not compelling, lacking as we are a client to outwit, it is a suitable book to go out on, ending something, but also including a statement of continuance. It also shines a pleasing spotlight on Archie and Lily Rowan's relationship. Stout deliberately did not age his characters, and apparently wished that they can go on forever - a nice change from the Reichenbach Falls solution! - and "A Family Affair" sends them onward settled in their own time zone. Absolutely not a book to start reading Wolfe - it requires a good grounding in Wolfe's world to have any measure of appreciation for what happens in this volume.
