It only took me 7 months to really get into this book, but it was worth the effort.

It took me while to get into the book and that is why I gave it 3 instead of 4 stars. It is an interesting story line about a woman who feels like she has the power to cause unhappiness and shuts herself off from love because of it. Add in the element of her getting struck by lightning and how it changes her outlook on life and you have "The Ice Queen." The ending got me feeling a little emotional, which I always find to be a sign of a good book. It was a quick and easy read for me and I enjoyed it in the end.

Hidden Currents is book 7 (the final installment, perhaps...) of Christine Feehan's enjoyable Drake Sisters series. In it, we find the story of the youngest sister Elle Drake, and the man destined to help her shoulder the intimidating Drake legacy, Jackson Deveau. Years ago, as Jackson lay in enemy hands, tortured and broken, Elle filled his mind and shared her psychic energy and strength with him to save his soul. After his escape, Jackson moved to Sea Haven with his friend Jonas Harrington to meet Elle. For years, he has lived on the outskirts of her life, afraid that Elle will never be able to accept the violence that taints him, terrified of the Drake legacy, until the day comes that he must save her life. Working undercover to bring down a powerful human trafficking ring, Elle is taken prisoner by a strong psychic. She must trust that Jackson and her sisters will come for her, as she endures sadistic torture from a violent man determined to break her spirit, dominate her life, and control her. Hidden Currents is the most disturbing installment yet in the Drake Sisters saga. The first six chapters are full of shocking details of Elle's kidnap and the subsequent physical and psychological torture she experienced at the hands of a madman. It is sickening and alarming, and is really difficult to read. In fact, I put the book down for a few days after reading those chapters - I was simply overwhelmed. But once I picked it back up, I couldn't put it down. Elle and Jackson are very powerful couple with a dynamic story. I was happy to see the other sisters and their husbands/fiancés in Hidden Currents as well. Feehan always does an incredible job of tying her characters together with characters from other books in her series, and I am always ready to embrace them and find out what they've been up to. As the last book in this series, Hidden Currents doesn't quite live up to the earlier books. Don't get me wrong, everything ends neatly, but it seemed as if something was missing. Perhaps Feehan was trying to leave an opening for further books - maybe from the perspective of Ilya's brothers? I suppose we'll have to stay tuned to see if anything comes from that.

I had read about John Adams' voyage to France during the American Revolution, but this book really brought it to life. Told from the point of view of his son, John Quincy Adams, who accompanied him, this fictional account makes you feel like you're there getting seasick with them, or cowering under cannon fire from the frigates. The pictures are beautiful, especially the opening 2-page spread, where young John Quincy and his father are making ready to board the ship on a gloomy, windy, snowy day. I'll be buying this one for my library for sure. Recommended!

Definitely a page turner. With every new chapter the writer kept adding to the mystery. Wish there were more books out there that kept my attention this well.

It didn't, at any point, make me laugh out loud or even stifle a giggle. I felt it tried very very hard to be an intelligent comedy and the effort was visible. There was a lot of boring narrative about the ins and outs of journalism that didn't interest me in the slightest. I kinda guessed the ending - not exactly but was close. Perhaps I didn't like it because mystery and crime are not genres I'm usually interested in (I made the mistake of being attracted by the pretty cover! lol) Having said all this, I definitely would not say it is a bad book. I did enjoy it and didn't find that I had to labour it through to the end. I did want to know what had happened and I enjoyed the way that all the little stories were thrown in and twisted together. I liked knowing the little pieces of background information of how people's lives are intwined - like when Chris finds the mobile phone, you find out a little about the person who lost it, how and why. So all in all, I would say that I find this book of average enjoyment. I would not recommend it but I would not say not to read it either. Rather non-emotive for me I suppose.

This book gave me a great overview on grammar, sentence structure, and how to construct a well written writing sample. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to craft a better LSAT writing sample.
