Not his regular brand of narrative non-fiction; frankly, I was somewhat bored.

A book about a brown character? With dreadlocks? Count me in! How many brown characters turn up in fantasy or sci fi? Not many, if any. The main character of this book lives in a world where reality storms swap and mix things with a sometimes cruel, random nature. The storm in his case has stolen his ability to breath without a resperator. I initially wanted to know how this guy could eat then, and what was it that was behind this strange world. It's a great book, but the answers and the way that things eventuate are unfortunately not as cool as the concept. Still a good read though.

This is my favorite of the series so far, Laurel seems less wet, slightly less self absorbed and more a character I can identify with. Supporting characters are more realistic, the pacing seems good although it's slow, but this is not an action adventure novel.I will read the next one because I want to know how things resolve themselves for Laurel, Tamani, David and Chelsea.

I am honored to know Debra and to have seen early versions of this beautiful book. This is a heartbreaking, gut wrenching, and hopeful glimpse into a time when a family was hurting and splintering. Finding the words to encapsulate such emotion and confusion without sounding like a victim or becoming redundant is hard to do. Debra does it here with honesty and grace.

This is a good premise for a book but is horribly written. Interesting vignettes if you can wade through disorganized chaos. I admit to quitting 2 chapters early; just couldn't take it any more. Also, too heavy of a liberal bias (and knowing my politics, that's saying something).

I keep this book by my phone at work. I've never had to use it and probably never will, but it makes for good reading during breaks and looks nice next to my Elements of Style, which I use every day.

For me, at least, one of the most remarkable books ever written. The multi-dimensional appeal this book holds is almost more than I can wrap my head around. I consider it a seminal work of fantasy without restricting it to the domain of children's fiction. And yet it's also one of the great works of children's fiction. It is religously inspiring and yet I feel that its connection to Christian faith can be considered strong purely on literary merit and not simply because I believe in its message. I have reread this book as a 10 year-old, a teenager, and an adult and never gotten tired of it.

This book reads like a film noir should—hence it's aptly named a "roman noir"—as it fulfills all the roles, all of the plot points, so well. It's action continues to rise; the characters become significantly more complex. It's really fun stuff and a quick read.

I read this book mainly for the section about kitsch; it ended up being my least favorite (although this may be because I had such high hopes for it.) Still I give this book five stars as it is informative and well written. It is definitely worth revisiting.
