Good. The first part of the book is the best and the later becomes redundant with revenge.

The story is definitely on a grand scale, but the dialogue, while at times brilliant, is also a bit stilted and unnatural. Perhaps that is the result of so much time having passed since the writing? Or, the fact that the book is set about 100 years ago? Either way, there are times when the dialogue is so dull it whips you right out of the majesty of the prose, and you wish the characters wouldn't even talk to each other. Overall a fascinating look at how we allow ourselves to either rule or be ruled by our worst instincts.

As long as u can get through the first few chapters, the book and characters draw u in and keep u there

I put off reading this book for the longest time because I thought I would be scared and terrified. Not the case. An incredibly fascinating book with a great story. And while it has a somewhat epistolary style, I would argue that this is one of the few novels where this actually works.

I read The Help when it was first published...i read a real hard copy of the book and truly fell in love with the stories. The story, set in the early 1960's Jackson MS, is visceral, stirring, touching and tear-jerking. Stockett has a gift. She fleshes the characters fully, viscerally...i can SEE Minnie, hear Abilene and I want to strangle Hilly. It was difficult to put the book down and my one single disappointment with the book was that I had completed reading it. Now that the movie is out, I have to say that I love that as well. I feel the screen writer was true to the story that Stockett set out to tell and each character was cast perfectly (in my uneducated opinion!). If you haven't read The Help do yourself a favor and get a copy. The strife, conflict, love and simple grace of the life of the help and the strength of the women is remarkable.

Best of Alice Hoffman! All of Alice Hoffman's books are nice and have a little magic woven in with a coming of age life story. Good reads!

better than the movie. i was entertained, but nothing was taken away. while there is nothing wrong with this particular genre of writing it'd be nice if they'd keep it to 200pp & under. i got sh** to do.

This book told an unexplored view of the holocaust. Though the narrator is Death, the story revolves around a young German girl. Though it was a little slow for me, the ending made it all worth it!

I read this book originally when I was 22 or so.... I was enchanted by it. Just picked up again oddly enough and re-read it. Still a good read.

This was a quick read and a fun book for anyone who has gone through the college admissions process.
