This is a collection of poems written by author and teacher Steven Layne. I recently attended a conference of his and wrote this book down as a title to pick up someday. He is a very good speaker. A poem book that can make you laugh and cry is a good one. This book is probably a little more because it helped me be insightful about my job. Not all of the poems are great, but pick it up for the ones that are. From his poem "The Transfer"... But big kids hate to read and write The testing shows they're low. I face my colleagues and reply, That's why I want to go.

I've really enjoyed this series; just wish I didn't have to wait a year for the next installment! I love how the characters, good and bad, have been woven through each book. I've especially enjoyed how Pat Bowers and his stepdaughters relationship has developed through each book. The exploration of good and evil that exists in each of us, and of guilt, forgiveness and faith runs is especially thought provoking throughout the thriller/mystery plots.

First, there is Andrew Conner, or as he prefers, Ace. He was once a best-selling author, but now he suffers from a drought of inspiration. He’s neither the hyper-masculine brute nor the silent, brooding type that seems to plague too many novels (of the romantic sort). He’s dorky and quirky and witty and well-read, and even at his lowest, Ace still elicits some smiles—even a few chuckles. Then there is Hannah, a spunky gal from Montana who makes me wonder why can’t more heroines be like her? She has an insatiable case of wanderlust, and she speaks her mind. She just might be the cure for Ace’s writer’s block. My favorite characters though? It’s a toss-up! On one hand, I really connected with Valerie, a young woman working in Ace’s bookshop. She’s shy, teetering on socially awkward, and she always has her nose buried in a book or in her homework. But! She has a secret, which is revealed in time. On the other hand, I loved the Orchid, the ninja who owns the flower shop across from Ace’s bookstore. She only speaks in haikus and she (almost literally) kicks ass. I say almost literally because I don’t think she actually kicked anyone in the rump; she does tie up “evil doers” though, and she chucks shuriken at people. This only scratches the surface of all the incredible characters readers get to meet in Smith’s Textual Healing. I was in book heaven since I’m one of those people who crave well-written characters over intriguing plot and world building and…other stuff. There were a number of pop culture references, which might be distracting to some readers. I thought they were tastefully done though and often hilarious. I especially loved the nod to the epic pirate vs. ninja debate. There were some grammatical errors. The pen wasn’t within reach, so I didn’t mark up my book. Honestly, I didn’t find it as frustrating as I’m sure others may. I think I was too invested in the story to care, really. And, although often laugh out loud hilarious (seriously, it was), some of the humor was a little…overkill? For the most part though, Smith knew where to draw the line. I typically avoid romantic comedies/romance novels, but Textual Healing offered a fresh approach to a plot line that can easily become clichéd and full of one-dimensional characters. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.

I understand why Elegance was printed first in the US. Other than making a little more sense of Elegance, not really worth reading. Is alot about the famous food critic and his love of food.

i loved this book you should read this book and more of dear dumb diary books because they are really funny and sometimes silly!
This is a great story about finding your path in life. I enjoy reading it, but it's not in my top ten.
I don't understand the point of this book. On one hand, I liked the ending more than I liked the series finale of the show; on the other, all of the characters in the book were caricatures of the worst qualities in people, unsympathetic and kinda psychotic. The first half of the book (a series of vignettes) was a bit more fun than the second (Carrie and her ensuing mental break-down with Big). Carrie, of the show and of the book, sucks.

I loved this book! I am now reading the sequel,Tears of the Moon.
I decided to read this after having read "Tell-Tale Heart" in school. I was definitely pleased. I still hold a special place in my heart for "The Cask of Amontillado".

This has perhaps the most exciting chase scene EVER. Well, at least so exciting that I spent an extra ten minutes on the treadmill just to finish it even though I wasn't reading the book for the first time. (1)
