I hardly have words for how amazing this book is. Compelling and totally absorbing, the story absolutely will not let you put the book down until you've finished. When not reading The Hunger Games, I was totally consumed with thoughts of the story, where it would lead me next. If you haven't already picked up this book, do it now!! The first in a trilogy of novels about one girl’s efforts to survive the totalitarian government’s machinations, Katniss Everdeen must use all the skills and wit she possesses to navigate the treacherous and high-stakes game she has no choice but to play.

I was non thinking to buy a sci-fiction romance when I bought First Steps... The story of a man who willingly decides to mate with a single parents with two babies under one years old? pure science fiction!!! Ok, ok, I'm joking. This is a tenderful story about Chad, a lonely park ranger who arrives like a knight in shining armor to help Peter, a gay man who has decided to be father, and has used a substitutive mother to gain his goal. But the life of a single father, even more of a single father of twins, is not simple and also living in an isolated cottage in the mist of a forest. So when Chad appears on the front door is like a miracle. And all the book is a miracle: the miracle of life and love, love between lovers and love between parents and sons. It's a vry beautiful story, maybe a little too perfect if we see the real life: but this is one of the reason becuase I read romance, because I want to dream of the perfect love. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VYX7ZA/?...

These books are getting better as I get through them. I'm starting to like Artemis. The more human he becomes the more enjoyable he is too. Holly and Butler are still my favorite. I was very sad to have a beloved character die, but that is part of the story. Hopefully in the next book Juliet will come back. I like her too.

Not NEARLY as good as Barchester Towers -- the characters aren't nearly as well-rounded, it's not as funny, and the plot resolution was telegraphed from approximately page three. That said, there's a lot of politics talk that I'm sure I'm not equipped to appreciate in 2011, as well as some reflection on the caste system in Victorian Britain that required blood to marry blood, as well as the regard for filthy lucre that let really, really rich commoners jump the line. However, I don't read Trollope for social philosophy, so all of that fell a little flat. I didn't hate it, but it's a weak link in the Barchester series for me.

There's what looks like the detail of a painting on the cover and seeing as how the book is by Pearl Earring author Tracy Chevalier, I figured it would also be the possible story behind another painting. Turns out it has nothing to do with a painting, or if it does, I have no idea what painting. It's about two families in London in the early part of the 20th century who meet at a cemetary where their family graves lie next to each other. One family has a large stone angel on top of their grave and the other family has an urn. I was at a cemetary last week and noticed a sign saying that no urns or statues are allowed, but I guess they used to be de rigeur. The story is told in blips by each member of each family in turn, although the emphasis is the stories of the daughters. It's certainly not a given that a book told from the point of view of children would be childish, but the whole book did seem a bit juvenile to me. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it, but I'm sure I would have appreciated and understood it completely at age 12 as well. Or maybe it just seemed like I'd already done this theme a fair bit lately -- women in an oppressed society getting into trouble. I would recommend this as a beach book perhaps, or a good book to read on a plane when you're too tired to have to concentrate very hard but want to be transported.

This book did not read like a debut novel. It was a really neat read! The premise was very unique and very well-executed. The plot and pacing kept me interested in the story the entire book, and I couldn't wait to find out how it ended. There were a couple of surprises at the end, and I loved how summarily Carson dismisses a main character. No fooling around, just bam! and it's over! I liked The Girl of Fire and Thorns from the very first page. I identified with Elisa and her emotional eating and I really felt for her. I liked the way Carson addressed this issue, as well as her treatment of Elisa's self-esteem. I do so love a love triangle and this book had a great one. I'm a sucker for forbidden love; therefore, I really enjoyed this part of the story. I admired Elisa for the adult way she handled her relationship with both of her love interests. I especially liked Elisa's character growth. The one problem I had with The Girl of Fire and Thorns, though, was that I didn't know what was going on for a while. I was kind of confused for about the first half of the book. I actually went online to check that this was the first of the series and not a later book in the series, because Carson jumps right in to the story with very little explanation. I had no idea what a Godstone was and was left in the dark as to all of the details of the story. I figured it out as I read though, which motivated me to keep reading even though the book was a long one for YA. Overall, I enjoyed The Girl of Fire and Thorns and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

"While my Sister sleeps" by Barbara Delinsky (2009) is a thought provoking read that tests the dynamics of a close-knit family. It gave me a lot of "food for thought." Anna Todd

Greatest insight for me- Israel must choose between 2 of three things it wants- Greater Israel, Jewish state , domocracy- picking any two- excludes the third.
