Good book overall, but parts of it lost my attention. I will say that listening to this book read by the author was a huge pleasure. Mr. Winchester is a fine narrator and wonderful to listen to.

I love this kind of book because there are so many different studies that apply to daily life and conversation! I find myself talking to my friends daily about the things I learn from this book. Fascinating!

I thought the discussion of randomness and chance was interesting. This ties in with some other recent reads (Predictably Irrational, Drive, The Social Animal) regarding understanding some of the underlying or unconscious things that go in to a decision. The idea that so many things in life that we think ar on purpose are really nothing more than chance is a tough one to accept or fully comprehend. I think his closing statements are important to remember, that even if chance plays a part in our successes, multiple trials increases the likelihood of success. "Try and try again."

this book is the autobiography of Mohammad Asad, the first man to translate Sahih Al-Bukhari (hadith of the prophet Mohammed SWT) into english. Born jewish, he spent his early adulthood as a reporter in the middle east. (time frame is the 40's and 50's i think). Centered around Middle Eastern politics, culture, and of course his spiritual journey to becoming muslim (he did not become muslim until he had already lived in the middle east for more than 20 years). the book is, at times, tedious and it is definitely a long road to mecca, but when you get there, you'll find yourself inspired. some of the parts of the book that really stayed with me through the years were his descriptions of the beduin tribesmen, and description of the moment on a subway train in england when he realized that he would become muslim.

This was an unexpected Christmas gift that I ended up loving. It's full of very short and very interesting facts that will come in handy at random social functions. It's not the serious kind of information either but several fun and interesting things. i.e. Why fresh pineapple and Jello don't mix or the odd clause Van Halen's concert contracts. It's very small so it's easy to carry along to places such as airports, post offices, DMV... I would recommend this to anyone over a certain age since some of the factoids are slightly adult in nature.

The first paragraph is one of the many reasons I love Nabokov.

byrd baylor is one of my favorite authors. this is my favorite book of hers. it show you don't have to be wealthy to be "rich." the illustrations are also amazing.
Ms. Burd did a great job on her first book. I downloaded this book for the low price of 99 cents so I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that I enjoyed the book greatly. There is a lot left to the story and wonder if the next will be out any time in the near future.
