Possibly THE best book I have ever read. AMAZING.

Right to the point view on how and why and when to date, being inspired and led by God. I don't agree with all the principles (it's pretty die-hard dating ideals), but I respect the author for having such gusto at age 21 to write this!

As Randy from American Idol says "It was alright but it just didn't do much for me" and "I'm just not feeling it". I'm not real crazy about Chinese culture and while there were a number of things I identified with and a number of interesting observations, I didn't feel much for the characters and just wanted to finish it. It was a bookclub pick and I think I was in the minority.

As a child, I loved the story of "Little Black Sambo" and this is a similar story. My 8-year-old liked it but my 4-year-old couldn't figure out why the animals turned into a golden-brown puddle when they ran around the tree.

I am pretty giving with my star ratings on all books, so to do this book true justice I put it on the very small shelf of books that I feel deserve 10 stars. I can’t say that all the books I rated 5 stars don’t deserve their perfect ratings, but a few books go above beyond that. A book of this caliber is like living in another life for a while; to be honest my real life kind of takes a break while I’m reading. I know and love the characters and while I’m reading I realize that the time with these characters is limited, I only get to be a part of just a little bit of their lives. And I want to pace myself and enjoy every minute of it, but I can’t bring myself to do it. When I finish reading I am overcome with remorse that I didn’t pace myself, that that was it, my time with Bella and Edward and Jacob is over… luckily in this case there is a sequel, which I picked up immediately after finishing New Moon. So much for pacing myself! (BTW I’m not actually as crazy as I sound) I actually liked this book much better than Twilight because I enjoy her relationship with Jacob much more than her relationship with Edward. With Edward the relationship is just there, it’s so amazingly perfect that you can’t relate to it.

Do not let the unassuming slender frame of this book fool you. It is, essentially, Christian counseling in a book. You can carry around a biblically sound therapist in your purse! Okay, but seriously Nouwen was a Christian psychologist so he knows what he's talking about. If you've ever had a knawing issue that you might know the 'biblical answers' to, but still find it eating away at you, pick a chapter title that sounds interesting to you and read it. I guarantee Nouwen's words will pierce you. If they don't, let the words marinate and then come back at a later time in your life and read them again. This is a personal journal of real feelings and experiences this guy went through. Some of his close friends had to convince him to actually publish it because he didn't want to (come on, it was his personal journal). But after you read it, you, too, will be so thankful he did.

not your classic grisham, but good just the same.

The author died of tooth decay. I think this shows in his writing.
This was an excellent book. At first I didn't really care for it, as it seemed to be a series of short 1 or 2 page unrelated incidents. But as you continue reading it does tell a story: sometimes sad, sometimes happy, sometime funny, but ultimately inspiring. I would recommend this book to everyone. The book is very short, I read it 2 or 3 hours. I do wish that Banes and Noble had a Nook version. I had to buy the Kindle version from Amazon, and then use their cloud reader app.

Curious - and enjoyable. Not as strange as adescription. Made a interesting far future. A little to single person centered as humanity revolves around.
This book was such an enjoyable read. It was interesting to learn about about the Chinese culture and their beliefs of the afterlife and rituals. Peony frustrated me a little in her stubbornness...there were many "if only" moments, but then the book wouldn't be the same. Great read!
