Great book!! This is the first part of the telling of Mehrunissa's life. A lot of people say that this is the better of the two novels. I think this is more the love story aspect of the recount, while the second book (Feast of Roses) tells more of her life in the harem, her powers and abilities to read and manipulate others, while still maintaing her undying devotion to Jahangir. Both novels are intriguing, each highlighting different aspects according to her stage in life.

I've always loved Michael J. Fox, and reading this book just reminded me why. He details the last 10 years of his life, during which he retired from acting to dedicate himself to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. This foundation has become the largest private funder of Parkinson's disease research in the world and Fox himself has become the most recognizable crusader for embryonic stem cell research. In discussing his trials with Parkinson's, his family, his political activism, and more, he exhibits the grace, humor, charm, and intelligence for which he has always been loved by audiences. If you're looking for a feel-good read, I would highly recommend this.

Another action-packed adventure from Stieg Larsson.

This could have been a very compelling story but the highly erotic nature of the writing detracts from the seriousness of the subject matter. Somewhat predictable ending. I would recommend it only for a historical perspective on how Down's Syndrome was viewed.

Although this book was fun to read as light fare, it read like a movie script. It was failingly formulaic, just like 95% of what comes out of Hollywood. In fact, I will venture to guess that he wrote this book just to have it made into a movie. Unfortunately, the movie was even more formulaic and less interesting, leaving and even fainter lasting impression. His earlier works were far more interesting and novel.

If Henry Rollins and Raymond Chandler had a love child who wrote noir fantasy novels, they might be something like this. Angry, sarcastic, full of attitude and gallows humor. James Stark was dragged down to hell (alive) by a circle of magicians jealous of his natural abilities. Now, eleven years later, he's back in L.A. (of course) and he's out for revenge. This book was dark, funny and a great read. I already have the second book sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read. I kind of love Kadrey's snarly version of the universe - self-righteous angels, self-absorbed devils and humanity caught in between. With a hero who is mythological whether or not he wants to be. Fun fun fun. (Also, for guys who like urban fantasy without any romance novel angels, this series is for you. It's a full-on testosterone pizza with extra testes for flavor.)

It was okay, but I could tell from a mile away who the killer was. It was pretty obvious. Heroine is a limp noodle and pretty useless. I know it's the victorian age, but still. And Colin is suppose to be hot, but I'm not feeling it.
