Totally forgot about this book until someone mentioned it the other day. I need to flip over it and try to remember what I enjoyed about it. Don't really remember any of it.

I have mixed feelings about Watchmen. I didn't hate it but didn't particularly love it either. Finding a little slow at the beginning, I started to enjoy it more as I got further into it. Alas, my attention span didn't hold out long enough and I was bored before the end. There was a little too much background and not enough action for me but I guess that's just personal taste.

Good, quick read. Creative, but nothing earth-shaking.

Given the generally high marks this book has received (mostly from the contributors and their acquaintances I see), I figured it safe betting that this collection would be an enjoyable read. Toe Tags doesn't feel like it even made it past a quick cursory glance from its proofreader. With stories switching from past to present tense with no reason other than the author's sloppy oversight, to (somewhat baffling) spates of a clear inability to distinguish between "than" and "then", this book is riddled with Grammar and Punctuation 101-level mistakes. I had the strong impression that very few if any of the authors were asked to make revisions beyond their first drafts. Needless to say, it made for a lot of distractions while reading. The stories themselves, while for the most part unique at their core, are neither frightening nor very enjoyable. That's not to say there aren't a couple of good stories in the collection. However, there seems to be both a lack of story development and general writing style from the large majority of these tales, and the overall work suffers for it. I often found myself bored as I read through this book, which to my mind read like a high school writing project slung together by a band of friends rather than an anthology of new and talented horror authors. On more than one occasion I wondered how a good chunk of these poorly written and cliche-abused stories were approved for publication at all. I had higher expectations, and Toe Tags is definitely not one of the best horror anthologies out there.
The way this book is written is beyond anything I have read before. The ride it takes you on is better than any movie or theme park attraction I have experienced. it is quite possibly the only book I have had physical trouble putting down. I would read 200 pages a night. Dan Brown is a master of the split narrative, and his original Robert Langdon novel needs to be regarded as something extraordinary. It is better than The Da Vinci Code, and really gives insight into a world that no one has ever gotten a look at: The Vatican. I loved this novel sooo much.

Unfortunately I have been unable to get my hands on a copy of the rest of this series, so have only read the first book. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. In this book I definitely liked the fact that the main character was male, these brothers brought a kind of bond to the story that just has to make you smile.

A very good book. The novel's gods are unique for anything I've read, incomprehensibly powerful while at times no less petty than the mortals they created (who were, after all, made in their image). I was never able to to predict exactly where the story was heading, new information always altering Yeine's path and possible endings to her story, and when it comes the climax is satisfying. I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel.
Hunter read this book to me, which gave it an added dimension. I really like the book and whoever translated this is basically a rock star. In one of the last chapters he talks about those who censor holding the printed word in higher esteem than those who don't. There are a lot of other cool ideas that I don't remember.
