I already know all about blogs, BUT there was a lot of good pointers to a lot of interesting, informative, and kooky blogs that I'd never read before.

This was one of my favorite books when I was younger; I read it multiple times between the ages of 14 and 19. Upon reading it again, more than a decade older and much more cynical, I expected to cringe at the forced poignancy and predictable plot. However, what happened is that I fell in love all over again. Yes, Paradise is syrupy and obvious. Yes, it features two rich and beautiful people living happily ever after. Everything works out and everything is wonderful. But, isn't that what this genre is all about? The fantasy and the escape from our own rather mediocre lives is just the point of a novel like this. Paradise certainly delivers what it promises.

Great read...a mix of adventures and archaeological investigation. The last two chapters are the best!
Very good teen novel about kids in a desert detention center forced to dig holes as the warden searches for a hidden treasure. Read it all in a single day!

4.5 stars. I just adored this book. The Frozen Thames is a collection of short stories set during each freezing of the Thames from 1142 until 1895. (The Thames probably won't freeze again because of the structure of the current bridge.) I'd been waiting for this book for ages on paperback swap. When you wait for a book for a long time, it can be a disappointment if it doesn't live up to what you'd hoped. Luckily, The Frozen Thames was even better than I was expecting. I'm not a big fan of short stories, but thought this sounded interesting as it was historical fiction related to an event that occurred 44 times. The book itself is gorgeous. It's small. The pages are glossy and have full color illustrations. The pictures are works of art of the Thames from times when it froze.

This book was not at all what I expected -- it was so much more. Normally, I have a large amount of disdain for stories told form the child's persepctive, for I find the children to be a little too wise, a little too precoscious (I know it's spelled wrong, but it's late and I'm lazy), a little too learned, a little too in tune with their fate, etc. (think Mary Anton in "The Promised Land" -- to this day, it is the most tedious piece of self-indulgent crap I ever had to read and the only reason I finished it was because it was for a class in grad school taught by the department chair). However, this book somehow avoids those pitfalls and tells its story in an earnest and gut-wrenching manner, perhaps owing to the use of illustrations and the graphic novel format to tell the tale. There are those that paint pictures with their words and there are those that paint pictures for which there are no words -- this work somehow blends the two together seemlessly. You can feel her confusion, her fear, her sadness, her anger seeping from the frames and punctuating your experience of her memories.

I liked how Wolf could sing lots of songs and he saved the woman from dying, he sang and the police came. He's a hero. Wolf was creative; he made up his own song.

Harry Potter Sorcerer's Stone no es mi favorito en la serie ... pero sigue siendo indiscutiblemente bueno.
