I think a lot of the language used in Peter Pan does not translate into modern-day situations. However, it is a very uplifting and nostalgic story that I look forward to reading to my children someday :). The sequel is very well written and although the storyline is complicated, I really enjoyed it.

After spending several months trying to make it through this book, I am finally putting it aside for now. I wanted to like this book, as it is on an important topic that hasn't been too well-covered in English yet. But the scholarship, if you can even call it that, is shoddy. The author does things like, for example - saying that it is plausible, given certain stated pieces of evidence, that a certain slave came from a certain society in Africa, and then later describing them as being that nationality that he himself had only said was a plausible possibility. These may seem like little things to the lay reader, but they're representative of his general tendency to jump to conclusions. It is a shame that this sort of writing has become so popular amongst laypeople who are interested in history. After being so disappointed in this book, I have finally decided to commit fully to not picking up any more contemporary books on history that don't have footnotes/end notes for specific statements. If you're not willing to back up what you're saying, I'm no longer willing to hear what you have to say. It's not worth the time it takes me to read far enough to decide that the non-footnoted book isn't what I'd wanted.

Absolutely amazing. Lucidly written, with an eye toward balancing authenticity with accessibility for an American kitchen. Not mention it's beautifully composed and photographed. I'll be using this one frequently.

I have just come back from the past - the seventeen hundreds to be more precise. Jamie and Claire have brought me hours of joy, horror, laughter, fear and love. The size of the book overwhelmed me at first, until I read the first couple of chapters by then I was so entranced by the characters and the setting that I forgot about the size of the book and all the household chores. I am looking forward to reading more of Diana Gabaldon's books in this series. This book is now easily one of my favorites of all times!

I just realized that I haven't reviewed the first 3 books in this series. The Lightning Thief is awesome. It is fast-paced and action-packed and very fun to read. Even though it's pretty boy-ish I'd say that girls would have no problem at all getting into this book. And if you love Greek mythology, so much the better. :) The only thing about this book is that I think that if you don't know anything about Greek mythology you might get confused in parts. Rick Riordan does a good job of tring to explain all the myths in layman's terms, but sometimes all the mythiness might confuse someone who doesn't have a pretty good understand of the Greek myths.
I can't get into this book...I ordered the book in audio and I am enjoying it now. I do hate the father, but I think you are supposed to hate him. I have finished it and I did like it when I got into listening to it. I don't know the history of the Congo, but I suspect what was in the book could be true. If it is then it makes me sad of America's part. The family came apart fast, which sort of surprised me. It was a thought provoking book that is for sure.

Herald is, in essence, a "best of" book for Hermes. It's written as a narrative biography and takes liberties with the gods (i.e. makes them moderately compassionate), but I'm okay with that. Rumor has it that this is the first in a trilogy. Color me excited. I'd love to see some other gods (maybe Athena perhaps) get this treatment. EDIT: I'm bumping this book up to 5 stars. The author really brings the gods to life. He writes in such a way that what counts as incest really does seem to bad (a must if we are to feel for these characters). He covers some of the earliest myths, specifically the creation of the Olympians, and does it with style. If he puts out a second book I'll be there in a heartbeat.
